Pretty simple home network device by David Lee, I used the 1 TB media drive for about a month and half now and have a very positive experience. I put it on an XP machine and had some trouble connecting to it from my Vista laptop and XP netbook without installing any software. The only feature I do not have used the USB Print Server (my printer in my office and the hard disk is connected in the living room next to the router and do not want either one, so they can be physically connected to move). My PS3 found automatically on the network, and I use the PS3 for watching TV programs stored on the hard drive on my HDTV. This works well. I can not edit files with the PS3, but I can play AVI and MP3 files (I sometimes play music through my stereo this way, but also TV programs). Formats. M mkv will not play this way, but that is a function of the PS3 instead of a limitation of the hard drive I am not using backup software that comes with it, I manually upload files to the device in any of my computers. I can keep my business files, writing, music, etc. on the disc and therefore can, for example, sit with my netbook still access all my files (which is very useful since the very characteristics netbook some local storage). All my files are in place and no matter what computer I'm using. File upload is not much, if any, faster than USB 2.0 in my experience, but the download speed seems faster, and even video files play very high resolution on the network without delay. For me, this HD solved many problems. I recommend if you have multiple computers at home and a collection of media or data files you want to share, especially if you have a compatible device such as a PS3 connected to your TV. If you only have a PC and will not play on TV, it's best with a 1 TB USB as it is cheaper to transfer the Pros * Decent performance on my network (cable and wireless) * You can connect to it through the PS3 or Xbox 360 to watch / listen to multimedia files * Very * Set a very small area pain * Works just as promised and I am in danger of filling the huge disk 1 TB Cons * Run * is a bit noisy if there is a factor in my router or network drive, sometimes my netbook (wireless) and PS3 (with cable) temporarily lose your connection. I think this is something that happens in my network instead of the device anyway. * If you rename a file on my computer hard drive while a file is playing on my PS3, there is a hiccup in playback: lost sound for a second, then again the sound but the playback stops for a few seconds before continuing. Sound and picture are in sync when this happens, however. 54 of 54 people found this review helpful Easy set-up, but a little 'noisy With TechGuyBill I was looking for a storage device to backup all my data from my 3 computers (1 Mac OS X operating system 1 Windows 7, 1 run XP) and my wife's laptop (Vista), so a particular type of device shared between multiple devices is a necessity. In the beginning I was thinking of buying a bigger disk and put it in my home server, but came across your Iomega sale when you walk into a local store. They were for sale, so I broke ... I bought a gigabit switch as well and did a few tests from my two PCs - one with and one with gigabit 100Mbps. Transferring a 700MB AVI file took ~ 68 seconds with a tool for Fast Ethernet (100Mbps) interface. My other PC with gigabit interface was able to transfer the file in about 35 seconds. I do not like 3rd party applications to install the backup manually manage, so I'm copying the things I want to back up versus using Iomega software included It is compatible with DLNA and flow to different media devices .... you will be able to see it in the network and the PS3.
