I love it, but it's far from perfect and not for everyone By Nena Brazil Why I love it: - Value: I set out to buy the 1T, but the price difference to double it to a 2T was irresistible (no regrets - in 4 months I'm getting close to completing my first "T"); - It reads all video files and has no problem reading separate subtitle files; - Fast uploading and downloading; - Excellent to browse through video files (it keeps a running clip on the left corner with both audio and video while the list of video files still appears on the right. You can start it from the beginning or from where the clip is at); - If you don't unplug it from the outlet, it will keep track of where you were in a video file (in many, many video files at a time). Why it is far from perfect: - There's a delay between pressing a button and getting something actually done (when watching a video file, this can be quite annoying); - The HDMI cord that 'comes with' is too short (investing in a good one helps considerably with the remote control delay, but does not solve it completely); - Fast forwarding can be a little frustrating 'till you get the hang of it, rewinding is even worse; - Really terrible to browse through photos (long delays between clicks). Is this the device for you? I bought it specifically for two things: to back up multiple computers and to watch video files. Once the HDMI cord was replaced and the remote delay "leftover" was mastered everything was fine, but if you are thinking about going through travel photos on TV, without getting people to scream for mercy, this is not the device for you. 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. 850+ movies and counting By Drtyhobo This is a really cool product. A buddy of mine had one so he was able to transfer overr 850 movies onto mine. There is probably room for another 50 to 60. Its plug and play...easy to use and great for consolidating your movie collection. Now I can sell all my dvds and my apt wont look like a asian teenagers college dorm. Amazon did take almost a month to ship it to me because it was lost in the mail or something, but I didn't really care about that...it happens. really cool product...it's slick, small and connects to my system using hdmi which makes everything easier. I got mine for $199.99 exactly and my buddy got his for $240 (lowest price around) a few months before I got mine. Don't pay more than that unless it's the 2 terabyte version. 6 of 7 people found the following review helpful. I would buy this 100 times! By Arikur Excellent! Was the only one I could find with VGA out so I could use it with a PC monitor. DOES NOT SUPPORT MP4 VIDEO! This is by far the biggest drawback for this unit. I have to convert mp4 to RM as RM works great on this device. Its construction is cheap especially the remote but for the price it is a handy device. See all 1 customer reviews...

A truly impressive and versatile media player, with some flaws By buru buru piggu It's not much to look at coming out of the box, but boy, does the O!Play pack a wallop! It's an outstanding first effort from Taiwan-based Asus, a company known more for Eee Netbook and notebook computers than home entertainment devices. With Asus being a newcomer to the media player field and my having tested so many bad players, I was a bit hesitant to order the O!Play, but now I'm a believer. With its exhaustive list of supported video codecs and network connectivity, it is nearly the perfect player, capable of playing everything from VCD to DVD to Blu-ray/HD DVD rips. Most notably, it supports RMVB, an important feature to fans of Asian shows and one that most of the major-brand players lack, including the otherwise superb WD TV HD Media Player and WD TV Live Network-ready HD Media Player. ASUS seems to be very actively developing firmwares and I'm impressed by their diligence. SETUP: Setup is easy and literally takes 30 seconds. On the side is 1 USB port and 1 eSATA port to connect local hard drives should you need them. HDMI and optical cable (S/PDIF) are not included, so you'll need your own. I really appreciate Asus using a 2-prong power cord instead of a wall-wart that blocks neighboring outlets. True to Asus's PC pedigree, the AC adapter looks like a PC laptop's AC adapter. It's very small (about the size of a Hostess Twinkie) and has a pleasant (and VERY BRIGHT) blue LED. Upon boot-up, the device asks you to configure it with TV settings, network settings, time and date, etc. After plugging in the LAN cable, it found my NAS units (D-Link DNS321 Gigabit Network Storage Enclosure and D-Link DNS323) right away. The O!Play did have a problem interpreting non-Roman characters on my NAS, so folder names and files got garbled. Some files did not show up on the O!Play until I removed the offending non-Western characters (Chinese and Japanese). With the new firmware, UPnP has been added, along with some slightly improved icons. With UPnP, the O!Play sees Chinese and Japanese filenames properly, but none of my MKV's showed up, a problem I had on all networked players I've tested. Only a fraction of my total library was listed. If you want to see your entire list, don't use UPnP. INTERFACE AND USABILITY: From a total off and unplugged state, the O!Play takes 10 seconds to boot to the home screen, compared to as many as 40 seconds for the Iomega ScreenPlay Plus HD Multimedia Player 1 TB. The home screen is bright and attractive, but the folder navigation scheme leaves a bit to be desired. It's spartan, white text on black, and not nearly as attractive as the WDTV or WDTV Live, but it gets the job done. The remote control is big and solid, though the buttons seem to be bizarrely grouped and scattered about, forcing me to look down each time to make sure I'm pushing the right button. The bottom group of buttons is arranged in a circle around the music button for example, mixing different functionality into one area: volume controls (+/-) with subtitle (Aa), audio track (head icon), repeat mode (circular arrows), picture zoom (magnifying glass), file display mode (Mode), and device setup options (Setup). "Mode" is a file listing filter, toggling between Movies, Music, and Pictures. With it, you never need to go back to the home screen. Unfortunately, there's no "Show All" mode which lists every file together at the same time. To PageUp or PageDown long directories, use the |< and >| buttons. During video or image playback, the picture can be zoomed up to 8x. During video playback, the fast-forward/rewind can go up to 32x. The inclusion of volume control buttons is very thoughtful and useful. You can turn video preview on or off. Pausing over a file for a second will play it in a smaller window on the right (with audio). There is a slight delay of a second or two when

The drive now can stop down (no spinning noise) after a few minutes' idle, which could lead to longer life span and reduced failure rate. I like the settings. And the interface is better than before. I added one more star for their listening to consumers and their effort to improve their product. July 06, 2010 Update: Just now, the "GENIE Backup Assistant" software in the Lacie package ruined my partition on another backup hard drive attached to the Lacie USB port. All the directory and data on that partition are messy now. I hope that I can get something back. My original plan is to back up the data on the Lacie regularly and automatically to the attached hard drives and on daily operations I just need to work on the data located on Lacie openshare. So the evaluation drops to 3-star now. My conclusion is that if you want to work seriously on important data and rely on Lacie networkspace, you are in danger. Maybe there are problems with the "GENIE" software per se( backup failed many times) but I found occasionally I could not access to the networked drives (especially those attached to Lacie). The bad connection could cause backup failure too. Buy professional ones if you want to use the backup function seriously. S. Huang. ----------------------------- Pros: 1. Attractive design; fanless operation (thought some noise from the disk spanning); nice light (and you can switch it off in its software). 2. Easy to set up. (Both in XP and Win7). Just plug-in and install the software, and you are almost done. 3. User friendly interface. I especially like the wake-up function and deep-sleep option. 4. The USB to external disk is very useful to do the backup (you can backup files on Lacie to the external drive or the other way round). 5. Access over internet is also OK. 6. Currently (one month use) no problem at all. 7. I just put all the data on the Lacie and use different PC/laptops to access to and edit them. Under this working situation, I don't see any limit on the transfer speed. (Actually the speed and reliability of your router is more or less the bottle neck.) Cons: 1. User account creation and setting is easy, but you might not access the user account if your OS has accessed the Lacie using guest settings (this is by default what most Windows would do to visit "network places"). Just google for more information about this. While this problem is caused by OS (and correcting this is not easy for non software engineers) and I assume most other consumer level NAS have the same problem, Lacie should have login and logout interface to avoid this problem. So I would say if you don't care about the user accounts and privacy against other users on Lacie, this would be a 5-star product. More frustrating is, I spent almost two days to figure out what problem it is. Lacie should have mentioned or even give solutions for this problem in their manual. Update: I found that the manual downloaded from Lacie website has solution on how to solve this problem (on Page 22). A little awkward but workable. So I should give this product a FIVE Star!) 2. You cannot partition the Lacie 1T drive. This might increase the risk of your data or you need another drive to backup your data to minimize the loss due to possible virus infection. 3. Eco mode is good but it seems that the disk as well as the external attached backup drive are still spinning. This leads to the concern about the lifespan of the drives since most of the time those drives are in this mode. 4. Auto backup software can only be implemented when your computer is running. Theoretically it would be perfect if the drives can do this by itself independent on the PCs linked to it. 5. Could not wake up Lacie through internet. 6. User manual with the product is too simple. You need download from

Comparison of ReadyNAS Duo, Iomega ix2, LaCie, HP for small office use By Edward Barnett This product is one of a number of network attached storage (NAS) devices on the market targeted at small offices and home users. If you're not familiar with NAS devices, the concept is simple: A NAS device contains one or more hard drives and plugs directly into your network (i.e., your router). When compared to simple USB hard drives that plug directly into a computer, a NAS offers a number of advantages: 1) It is accessible to any computer on your network. This is convenient at home, since you can use the NAS as a central repository for files (documents, photos, music files, etc.) that you might want to access from any of a number of different PCs. In a small office, having a central storage location for key files (client documents, contact lists, etc.) can be critical. 2) In principle, you could achieve the same benefit by attaching a big USB drive to one PC, setting that PC up to share its files, then leaving that PC on all the time. But these NAS devices are better optimized for file sharing, use far less energy, and take up far less space than a full PC. 3) Most of these NAS devices have something called RAID. They have (or allow you to install) multiple hard drives in the same unit, then they write every bit of data to multiple drives. This way, if one drive fails (as they are prone to do), the NAS can automatically switch over to the other drive and you don't lose any data. One HUGE warning, though - RAID only protects you from drive failure. NAS devices still have plenty of "single points of failure," including the power supply, controller, etc. I lost all of my data on a LaCie Network Disk because of a software glitch in the unit, even though all the individual drivers were fine. RAID reduces your risk of losing files, but it does not eliminate it. 4) Because the NAS is always available to any PC on the network, it's a great solution for backing up individual PCs, in addition to operating as a file server. I am currently using a number of different NAS products in both my small business and my home. Here is a summary of the pros and cons of the three models I am currently using: Netgear's ReadyNAS Duo, EMC Iomega's ix2, and LaCie's Ethernet Disk RAID NAS. I'll call out only areas in which I see significant differences between the products. Also, this review is intended mainly for small office users - the features you might care about for a home NAS are likely to be different (e.g., you'd probably care about how well it works as an iTunes library or for streaming movies, neither of which is key in our office setting). Here goes: 1) Netgear ReadyNAS Duo. This is a smaller, two-drive version of Netgear's ReadyNAS product (originally developed by a company called Infrant, which Netgear acquired). It takes up very little space, uses relatively little power, and is fairly quiet. Reads and writes to this device are very fast, which is important when running backups. The ReadyNAS has a particularly robust feature set when it comes to backing up the NAS to another device on the network. This is important, since even with RAID, it's possible that the whole device will fail (e.g., if the power supply goes bad), so you want to make sure you back up your NAS regularly. Setup isn't hard, but you have to know what you're doing - this device is clearly targeted at somewhat technical users who know the terminology and are willing to work through all the configuration menus. This is our primary file server in our office, and it has been a reliable workhorse. About once every 2-3 months, I need to log on to fix something that has glitched - other than that, the ReadyNAS Duo has required no effort beyond setup. It's one of the best small NAS products I've used. 2) Iomega ix2. Iomega is now owned by EMC, the company that creates the monster-sized storage devices for

Specific Folders can be selected for backup 4. It turns off and on when computer is turned off and on. Cons: 1. Software license only allows use with 1 computer 2. Many ads to purchase more software in the bundled software 3. There is a memory leak in the software (version 4.60.0.7252) I plugged this thing in and it automatically started the software install which was very easy to follow. Once it was done it defaulted to backup my entire computer which was perfect because 2 TB of space if plenty of space to do this for me. The software did have an option to select only specific folders which was nice to know in case I upgrade my pc and have to limit the amount of files for backup. The software has built in advertisements asking you to try and purchase more of their software. They are easily avoidable, but I'd rather not see them. My favorite part about the backup software bundled with this external hard drive is that it is constantly working to create a mirror image of all the data on the pc. It updates files on the external as soon as they are updated on the pc. The biggest issue I ran into was that the software only allows you to install it on one pc. I had planned on using this drive with both my pcs and backing it up over my home network. I am going to continue using the drive, but I will go back to using cobian backup which is free; though the interface is a bit less easy.[...] I do want to say that if you are planning on only using this with one pc or you are willing to purchase extra licenses to utilize the very easy to use interface then this is a very good product. ** My original review didn't contain the below information *** This problem didn't occur right away. The memory leak in the memeo software bundled with the drive causes windows to popup a message that there is a problem with .NET software. Windows will handle it when you click ok, but all that happens is the Memeo software is closed. I checked the system memory before I closed the program and saw it was using over 1.5 Gigabytes of RAM. I am currently running the most up to date version of Memeo instant backup (version 4.60.0.7252). 683 of 757 people found the following review helpful. 2TB model - An attractive HDD with the option to upgrade $$$ By Lincoln Gergar This review is for the 2TB Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex model. The 2TB version is not small and portable like the 500GB model. The 2TB version uses a standard desktop size 3.5" HDD, while the 500GB model uses a laptop size 2.5" HDD. The 3.5" HDD will transfer files faster than the 2.5" HDD, but will produce more heat. -- My history with Seagate has not been so good. To me and many others, Seagate has a reputation for drives that fail quickly and unexpectedly. Everyone can repair a bad history, but I can't seem to forget Seagate's reputation. But like any bad relationship, things change and I must try to move on. This Seagate GoFlex external hard drive looks good, really good. It's the kind of design that stands out from the crowd. But... where is the ventilation? All hard drives heat up, so why are their no air vents or fans? This worries me. All the eye-candy in the world won't make up for a burned up hard drive. The performance statistics are like any other external HDD. 3.5" disk, 7200 RPM, USB 2.0, 32MB cache. Nothing to get excited about. Matching stats makes me long for a hard drive brand that I can depend on... like Western Digital (I've owned 7 in the last 3 years and never had one fail even once.) However, this Seagate does offer something new: the ability to upgrade to USB 3.0!!! Sounds amazing, but.... you have to shell out $40 for the USB 3.0 HDD adapter (and another $30 for the USB 3.0 card for your computer). So "The World's Most Upgradeable Desktop Hard Drive" comes with some fine print... USB 3.0 not

A worthy successor to the BDP-S370 By Peter I just purchased two of these - one for myself and one for an out-of-state friend. I'm using mine with a Sony Bravia 1080p flat screen; my friend is using hers with an older 30 inch CRT TV (4:3 aspect ratio) until she gets around to taking her flat screen out of its box. I was thinking about getting a unit with built-in WiFi, but before making the purchase(s), I did some research online and heard (read) some horror stories about streaming via WiFi that were, let's say, somewhat less than complementary (glitches, disconnects, freezes requiring reboots, etc.), so I decided to purchase this unit BECAUSE it didn't have WiFi (why pay for a feature that I'm not going to use?). I already have a Sony BDP-S370 (using it with a Samsung flat screen) and like it a lot; I would have bought two more of them, but they weren't available directly from Amazon when I ordered, so I got these - I prefer buying from Amazon for their returns policy. Also, the BDP-S380 supports 'vudu' AND it has an on-screen digital throughput speed readout (in Mbps) which appears when streaming is starting up - both welcome additions! My setup took about 15 minutes from the time I opened the box until I was watching discs, Amazon VOD, and Netflix (the only ones that I've set up so far). I connected the BDP-S380 to my TV via HDMI, and my LAN via Ethernet cable and everything just worked (of course, I had to set it up for my Amazon and Netflix accounts, but that took less than five minutes each). After going through the on-screen quick start menus, the unit told me that there was a firmware upgrade available, so I told it to do it, and a few minutes later, it finished and turned itself off (normal when upgrading firmware). My friend's setup took a bit longer, since she had never set one up before and I couldn't see what was happening while I tried to talk her through everything (from memory). She connected to her TV using the (supplied-in-the-box) AV cable. Because her TV was 4:3 aspect ratio, some of the menus didn't display legibly, which is probably what made things take a bit longer. Anyway, we got everything working properly within about 20-25 minutes. One thing of note I would like to mention is this: all BD players manufactured after 01/01/2011 have DRM firmware which prevents HD signals from using any output other than HDMI. For me, that was no problem since I was using HDMI; since my friend was using AV, everything was displayed on her TV in SD (not really a problem since that is all it's capable of displaying anyway, and she'll be using HDMI if she ever sets up her flat screen *:^). I'm very pleased with this unit (and so is she). Its outputs are crisp and solid, its user interface is staight-forward and easy to understand, and its physical size, shape, and appearance should fit in anywhere. Definitely a 5-star device. ====== NETFLIX Note (04/15/11): It seems that Netflix is no longer limiting selections to your Instant Queue! There is now a choice entitled "Top Picks For You" -- also, you can now press "Options" on the Remote and when you select "Categories >" you will be presented with a Category list from which you can search and select movies! Yay!! 31 of 33 people found the following review helpful. 1,080 P's of Awesome. By J. K. Ashbreck I really like this player. I've had it about a month now and can't think of anything I dont like about it. It's nice and quiet. Great picture, seems to upconvert well enough. It loads very quickly even with the "quick start" turned off. I have it hard wired to the internet so I have no wireless problems to speak of. Its slim, sick and shiny; goes great with my Sony Bravia LED. I have a PS3 so the whole Netflix "in queue only" thing that others have complained about doesn't bother me. The other internet apps are basically a rehash of whats already on my Bravia. But, Oh Well. I bought it to play

It's OK, but WD fails on the truth By Peter Beckley Let me start off by saying, I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit and only know of how the device works on my setup. The NAS itself is quite nice. It's quiet, energy efficient and very simple to install. You just plug in a network cable and power, and wait until the light stops moving. Then browse to the admin web page and presto you got 3.8TB (RAID0) or 1.8TB(RAID1) to fill up. Windows 7 instantly saw this thing as a network resource and I was able to browse to it. I didn't know what IP it had taken from my DHCP server, but the index.html file that I saw on the drive redirected me to it without a problem. Overall a nice little NAS that serves up music, movies and stores backups for my whole household. I use the included Media Center and my wife uses XBMC on her WinXP laptop for movies, and we share a common library for music via iTunes. We can both be accessing different songs and/or movies without a single issue or skip...very nice! Now the problem...IT IS SLOOOOOOOOW! Forget what WD says about a 10/100/1000 connection because it just isn't going to happen. Everything I've read on every forum I can find says it's due to the weak processor that WD chose to use to run the Linux OS driving the whole thing. I get 11MB/s max, and that is using TerraCopy and not the even slower included windows explorer copy function. Moving my 130GB music collection (yes, all legal!) took hours. I manage that collection with iTunes and I've made the mistake of trying to update the ID3 tags on an entire genre of music...sloooooooow. Summary: Don't expect the speed of an external USB or FireWire drive...it just isn't going to happen, but it will serve up music and movies at the same time without missing a beat. The only thing to clear your schedule for is making large data transfers or updates. I recommend getting your music and movies the way you want them locally, and then moving them to this NAS. 109 of 112 people found the following review helpful. Works as described. A good value and a useful tool. By Chris in St. Pete I purchased this to have safe backups of all of my photos and music. Having lost a hard drive (not backed up) last year and my external drive being at capacity, and a bit finicky lately I was concerned about the safety of my data. I purchased this as an insurance policy against losing the treasured images of my family, friends and travel I have accumulated over the years. I researched options and found this unit to be the best value to meet my needs. My needs (and wants) included: Double back up of data (RAID) Enough space to back up current drives (600GB) Network-able so I can share to laptop Out of the box this feels like a quality piece. At about 6 pounds it feels solid in your hands. Case is simple and attractive but would have preferred a black case over white. It comes with a wall-wart power supply and an ethernet cable. There is USB port but no cable is provided. One simple vertical white light is the only physical user interface. Aside from the color a very handsome package. My only issue is that the light NEVER goes out completely and is relatively bright. Consider that when deciding where to position it. Id prefer that the light have a sleep mode that would shut it off after a period of inactivity. Set up is as simple as plugging it in and patching the network cable to your router. The included software does the rest. It finds the drives and maps them to your machine. The software must be loaded onto any machine on your network that you want to have access to the drive or to backup. A simple and pain free process. Moving data to the drive is time consuming. Transfer speeds are slower than both my external and internal drives (not unexpected). Not a deal killer, just be aware that the initial data transfer will take a while. Once loaded the read/transfer speed is fast enough to stream

I also have the Sansa TakeTV that I purchased 2 years ago but I'm giving that away as soon as I find someone to give it to. The CiragoTV Mini is a lot more convenient to use and offers so many features the Sansa doesn't have. With the Sansa you had only the main unit to store video on. Although the dock had a USB port on it, you couldn't plug just any USB storage device into it and play video from there. With the Cirago you have so many storage/media options. Also, it plays not only video but pictures and music as well. It also costs much less than the Sansa. It isn't housed in metal like the Sansa but the build quality is solid. Performance: This device played everything it said it would play. No glitches at all. Video quality was amazing. My only problem is when I try changing TV types or resolutions it seems to switch to PAL mode. I still need to figure that one out. Media Support: I only gave it 4 stars for Media Support because it doesn't recognize SDHC cards. Regular SD cards work fine. So if you're thinking of buying a large capacity SDHC card to put video, pictures, or music on, make sure you get one that comes with one of those SDHC readers so you can use the SDHC card through the reader. What's great about the CiragoTV is that you can use any USB storage device - hard drives, flash drives, SD cards, and even card readers that take any of the other memory cards not directly supported on the device. User Interface: For video playback the remote only has previous and next file buttons. No fast forward or rewind buttons. To ffw or rew the video you need to press an options button then select a button from the on-screen interface. They could've used the left and right buttons since those buttons are not used for anything while playing video. On the other hand, I had a folder with DVD files and while playing around with the device I went into the Files option and when I went into the folder containing the DVD files I found a "Play DVD" option added to the folder. (Its not really there but the device adds that option when it knows the folder contains DVD files.) I clicked that and I was amazed to find the device supported the DVD menus, scene selection, etc. The Next and Prev buttons on the remote now worked with the DVD chapters. Amazing! Now I can copy my DVD collection onto a portable hard drive and have most of my DVD collection with me wherever I go. Parents, I would get this device, put all your kids' DVDs on a hard drive, find a power adapter that plugs into a car lighter socket, then plug the device's AV out into your van's AV input and they'll have enough video to keep them occupied on a cross country road trip! I'll do some research and find a car power supply for this. Package Contents: The kit includes everything you need (CiragoTV Mini, Manual, power supply, remote with battery, AV cable) but I wish they'd included an HDMI cable since those don't cost much these days. A 3-foot cable would do. So if you're looking for a solid, portable, versatile media player for home or to take around with you, you can't go wrong with the CiragoTV Mini. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Cool little media player By Shannon Clare I got the CiragoTV Mini a few days ago, and have been loving it! I dont have to watch downloaded content on my computer anymore coz all I need to do is connect a USB flash drive or external hard drive to the Mini and it plays on my TV! It truly is "Mini" too - it fits in the palm of my hand. The small size of it makes it a cool travel companion on family trips too. The product description on Amazon was missing some technical specs ... i found them on Buy.com: Tech Specs Interface 1 x USB2.0 Memory Card Support SD/MMC/MemoryStick Power input 5V, A/C adapter included Video output HDMI 1.1 up to 720p/1080i (upscale), AV Out Audio output AV Out

Decent small tablet By Adam I ordered this product to see what android was like before I invested in a phone with the android OS. I was pleased when the product arrived in a timely manner and in good condition. I've heard that people were having issues connecting to the android market but I didn't have any problems at all. I downloaded a few apps already. I was able to connect to my home network and surf the web in less than 2 minutes. Android takes a bit of getting used to if you are like me and more familiar with an iphone. The only complaints I have are the RAM is a bit on the low side. A way to help that problem is downloading an app killer from the market to quit the apps that are running in the background. The more apps that are running in the background the slower the device becomes. Also, the touch screen isn't quite as good as I'd like but the device is all in all pretty good. 105 of 116 people found the following review helpful. Great performance for the money, and Android market! By m.kay Having compared and read many online forums regarding the new slew of Android MIDs, I purchased both the Rockchip CPU unit here, and the VIA CPU unit from another seller. The Rockchip runs circles around all the others out there! It can play up to 720P HD video and almost any file type. The unit even features full android market app link, to allow access to upwards of 50k android applications its wifi works great and the new aluminum housing keeps it running cool compared to the VIA unit 58 of 63 people found the following review helpful. A very nice Android device for the price! By caustin1973 For a no name brand Android device, this isn't bad at all!! The Rocketchip processor is speedy, the memory is a little on the slow side, especially when running multiple apps in the background, but all in all, it's a great product for doing mostly multimedia stuff. I connected to my wifi network in less than a minute, and I'm already downloading multiple apps from the Android Marketplace! And the delivery was pretty speedy. I ordered this device on Sept 14, and it arrived 4 days later. The only things I would change about this device are: -Increase the memory. the more memory, the faster. -G-sensor; it could stand to be a little faster when rotating the screen -Android 1.5; It's not bad, but could be better, especially with 2.1 and higher that's out for mobile phones. Other than that, the device is awesome!! See all 66 customer reviews...

Prodigi PD-100N Network RMVB HD Media Player

You can play videos, music, and photos saved on a USB storage devices such as USB thumb drive, USB hard disk through the 2 USB connectors on the front panel. This device supports almost all formats of HDD and has the most interchangeability. The Prodigi PD-100N can also connect to your home computer network (wired or wirelessly through an optional USB Wifi Dongle) to stream digital movies, videos, music, and photos from your PC. This player provides flexible networking support via either SAMBA client or UPnP to access thousands of digital content stored around your home. You and your family can even watch photo slide show with your favorite music playing in the background.

Brand: Prodigi PD-100N Model: PD-100N Decode and output High Definition 1080p video including MPEG-2, VC-1, H.264/AVC and RMVB HD Network-Attached-Storage (NAS) function allows you to access (transfer, delete, edit) files on your connected USB disk over the network 10/100 wired LAN for streaming media files from your computer directly to your TV with having to first transfer the file onto a USB disk Resume function- Bookmarks where you left off even after the unit is power cycled and a different file has been played Time search function - allow user to search the movie by time

Most helpful customer reviews 31 of 33 people found the following review helpful. What can I say, exceeded my expectations! By Jon I bought the Prodigi PD-100N even though I already own a WDTV because I wanted a unit with networking. I did consider buying the ASUS but decided to give this unit a try mainly because of the 2 year warranty. Out of the box: The unit is very compact. Only a little wider than my WDTV, but was thinner and lighter. It was great that they included everything I needed to get going, especially the HDMI cable and networking cable. Setup: Setup was a breeze. Since all the cables were included, I didn't have to buy another one or go looking for one in storage. I plugged in the power adapter, HDMI cable, and my external drive and turned it on. I noticed a small detail about the power adapter. Because most power strips have inputs that are vertical, the way this adapter plugged in, it did not block any of my other inputs on the power strip. This was nice. In the past there were times (not always with a media player) when I plug in a new device and it blocks like 3 inputs which just irritates me. I don't know if they designed this adapter in mind, but it only makes sense. User Interface: Load time took about 10 sec which is pretty fast. Once it finished booting, within 5 seconds, a message came on stating my USB drive has been detected. That was assuring. The UI was a little different than the WDTV and from screen shots of the ASUS. It was more text base. I guess this could be a plus or minus depending on your preference, but for me it no different. I just want it to be easy to use and it was. The home screen has 5 options, USB, NET, UPnP, Playlist and Setup. Pretty straight forward, just the way I like it. Navigation is pretty standard like windows explorer. Another neat feature I noticed was that when I was playing my movies and wanted to make changes in setup, I didn't have to exit out of the movie to go into setup. I simply hit the setup button on the remote and it brought up a transparent setup menu. Once the changes were done, the movie just resumed. Two more features I wanted to mention is the time search and the resume function. A lot of manufacturers overlook these simple functions, but I love them. The time search allowed me to move to any point in the movie without going through fast forwarding which was awesome. I always fall asleep at night when watching my movies and this allows me to get back on track quickly the next night. For the times that I turn off the unit before I fall asleep, the resume function is a life-saver. The resume feature even remembers where I left off in the movie even after I played a different file. That was surprising!! Format support: Well this unit played everything I had. Of course I don't have every type of file on the market to test, but it played the common files such as AVI, MPG, DIVX, MKV and RM. I don't spend too much time on this section because to me format support seems to be pretty universal. I have read the reviews for the other media players and it basically comes down to whether you want RM support or not. WDTV weakness is their lack of support for Real Media. And when comparing this unit to the ASUS and even the Mediagate M2TV the format support are all the same. Picture Quality: It really depends on the encoded file you are playing, your connection and your TV. My friend gave me Ice Age 3 in RMVBHD which he claims to be 1080P (4GB) which won't play on the WDTV. When I played it on my PD-100N, I was amazed. I did look like Blu Ray. The picture was smooth and the colors were bright. I was amazed at the clarity. Streaming: Streaming was pretty straight forward. I streamed from my laptop which is using Wifi and my desktop which is plugged in to my router. My laptop is running Vista and my desktop is running XP. I simply shared the folder and it was recognized by PD-100N. So far I haven't ran into any problems here. It streamed everything perfectly fine. I

Great product By Sam Smith I ordered this item from another website, and so I avoided any issues that the previous reviewer experienced. That aside, I have now had this product for 2 weeks and it has been working great. The setup took a couple tries to locate the drive, but since that minor bump in the road it has worked very smoothly and exactly as advertised. Hooking up my current external USB drive was very easy as well. Upload/download speeds are very fast. Webaccess works great as well. My only complaint is that when in Auto power mode and the drive is powered down due to inactivity (as it should), you cannot initiate the hard drive again from Webaccess. It can only be turned back on from the home network. Thus, if you want to use Webaccess occasionally, the drive must be ON all the time and wasting energy. A minor gripe in the grand scheme of things though. 57 of 63 people found the following review helpful. Almost the promises By Gerd Sousa The product is almost everything I was expecting based on the description. One important piece that is not clear on the specs is that the external USB disk MUST be formatted at XFS in order to the users be able to read/write on it. Any legacy USB disk you might have is probably already formatted on NTFS or FAT32. After you install it on the Linkstation USB port you can read but not write on it. There are 2 major impacts on it: First, you need to spend a lot of time to backup the original content of the Linkstation unit, format it on XFS and spend a lot of time again doing the copy of the data back to it...and you cannot use the unit to do it by itself. You must do the copy from a networked PC causing an intense and unnecessary traffic. Took to me 2 full days to do this operation in a 300GB disk. Second: After the format you cannot remove the USB disk and read in other machine with Vista or XP on it. Only Linux/Unix OS would be able to read data from there. One small pitfall happen during the setup, a bug that Bufallo claims impossible to reproduce, so they cannot fix but it is related by dozens of users in their FAQ blog, has locked my admin password. I couldn't enter the admin username and of course couldn;t change anything in the configuration. Only after few days I was able to find out a solution doing a "refresh" on the firmaware. Their blog has the step-by-step for it. I hope the same thing does not happen again. Besides that, the wake-up function is working fine (but you should use their NAS Navigator application on each client to make the unit awake after a stand-by). The driver is fast enough to allow DVD streaming from a DVD movie saved on the unit and played on my notebook. Also, the Media Server capabilities works fine and any iTunes in the network can create a library based on it. I might end up using the USB port as a backup of the sensitive data in the Linkstation and not as an extended storage unit. (this is the company recommendation anyway) 22 of 22 people found the following review helpful. Excellent multi-purpose NAS By Mark Bought one for home and found out it does such an excellent job, I bought one for my small office as well. For home, i needed a NAS to store media on an always on device to stream to PS3 and XBox 360. This Buffalo device does this very well, with hardly any set-up at all on these two DLNA devices. Just enable 'Media Server' from the very easy to use browser based admin utility and your set. Other great features: web access is a very simple page to access (buffalonas.com), combined with comprehensive, but easy to use user management. Also the Bittorrent feature is so easy and so convenient, you'll use it even if you dont know at the moment what this does. It works while the computer is off - obviously, and works quietly - actually silently, because this device is so quiet even while accessing files. Not 5 stars because: silly really - on PS3, Photos are selected

At first glance, the device is feature packed. Not only do you get the typical features (like Netflix, internet browsing, etc), but you get playback of ISO files, which until recently has been hard to find. This device has many things going for it, but the negatives really take my excitement for the VMP75 down a notch. This device is small and the size is great for mobility (if you choose) and for the fact that it can easily fit behind mounted TVs or stuck in a corner somewhere. Of course, no matter where you put the player, it will need to be visible for the remote. It's a nice, compact device that stays cool while running. I loved the fact that the player would access ISO files, but in my tests the success was limited. Playback was slow at times, but that could have been my connection. However, sound would cut out and I would get a connection error at times. As for Netflix access, it did a pretty good job. Connecting to Netflix would take some time (actually, many of features for this player took time to load and I would definitely call this device SLOW), but once Netflix was loaded up you could browse your instant queue and get going with your movie. There were a couple of instances that sound wouldn't work and I was forced to exit the Netflix feature and restart it. Another negative to the device was that wireless was not included. I know many people have wired connections, but many do not. With most of my TVs I do have a wired connection and I tested this device both on a wired and wireless connection because I really wanted to put this in a room that had only wireless available. In this day and age, the manufacturer should include wireless. I had to buy one of the USB wireless dongles that was recommended by ViewSonic (and let me say their list was small and the devices were hard to find). I hate to list so many negatives and not list some positive aspects, but for me, the negatives were a sore spot. For my particular purpose, this device was going to primarily serve up Netflix and it worked perfectly (minus the SLOW startup time) about 90% of the time. However, I think some better firmware from ViewSonic might fix some of the real problems. All in all, it's a decent NetFlix player, but there are too many devices on the market that can already play NetFlix well. Personally, I'd consider waiting for another model from ViewSonic. 18 of 19 people found the following review helpful. Finally working By redwine I got this primarily for Netflix. The first unit I received had a bad HDMI port on it. I had to turn it upside down and wiggle the cable in order for any picture to show on my TV. I held it down in this position to see how it worked. Everything looked OK except the Netflix had no sound. Well this unit went back the next day. The second unit came and the HDMI port was OK on this one. I tried Netflix and NO SOUND AGAIN!!! This time I reported the issue to Viewsonic and got a response back quickly. Naturally they wanted me to validate I knew how to hook it up. I responded that the sound was fine with playing network files and was fine on YouTube...just Neflix. The response was a thank you and they said a possible fix is in the works. Well...yesterday (Sept 7th) I checked for firmware updated and there was one!!! I downloaded and installed and now Netflix works. I like this box now. Reminder to all...download the latest firmware before trying anything. They are adding fixes all the time now that people are reporting problems. ***Edit Nov 25**** There is another new firmware update. It fixed my HDMI sync issues, allows zip codes for location, seems to work better with network shares, seems twice as fast responding to commands, and loads during power up faster. It is getting there..just wish all this was done before they launched. Right now I am glad I

The O!Play Air also features an optical digital audio output for lossless audio transfer to your receiver or TV. If you have yet to jump on the HDTV or digital audio bandwagon, no worries, the O!Play Air also features composite (RCA) audio and video outputs to ensure compatibility with most any setup. Small but Powerful - Supports Virtually All Formats O!Play Air may be compact, but it's fully equipped to play most formats in your digital library. O!Play Air supports these formats: Video Compression: MPEG1/2/4, RM/RMVB, VC-1, H.264 Video File Extension: .MP4, .MOV, .XVID, .AVI, .DIVX, .ASF, .WMV, .MKV, .RM, .RMVB, .FLV, .TS, .M2TS, .DAT, .MPG, .VOB, .ISO Audio: MP3, WAV, AAC, OGG, FLAC, AIFF Image: JPEG, BMP, PNG, GIF, TIFF Subtitle: SRT, SUB, SMI, SSA O!Play Air can also bitstream Dolby Digital Plus and DTS Surround audio to your receiver to bring realism to the next level. If you plan on plugging the O!Play Air directly to your TV set, HDP-R3 can decode those formats and provide a stereo output without headache or hassle. With such a wide range of compatibility, you can enjoy your media without waiting for conversion. High Speed Connectivity (eSATA and USB 2.0) HD content brings incredible detail to your high-definition TV, but it also requires huge bandwidth to display. It's for this reason that many consumers invest in external storage devices with high-speed USB or eSATA interfaces. O!Play Air provides an onboard eSATA (external SATA) port that is 6X faster than USB 2.0 for high speed transfer from your portable hard drives. And since the unit features both an eSATA/USB 2.0 combo port and a dedicated USB 2.0 port, you can store your media on drives with either interface, and access multiple drives simultaneously. With new support for CF, SD, MMC, MS, and MS Duo memory cards, you can directly browse the photos from your camera's memory cards right on the big screen. Advanced Network Support Those who have their media on network-attached-storage or a networked PC will be delighted to know that the O!Play Air features an on-board LAN and 802.11 wireless support. With high-speed 300Mbps Wireless N and Ethernet connectivity, you can stream contents directly to the O!Play Air rather than moving and connecting external drives. No matter your media storage preference, the O!Play Air's got you covered. Easy-to-Use Interface The O!Play Air features an intuitive user interface that lets you easily access the files on your storage device regardless of your technical know-how. It only takes a few clicks to begin enjoying your media. Plus, with advanced options, you can customize settings such as subtitles, aspect ratio, noise reduction and more, to optimize your viewing experience. Music Shuffle and More at Your Finger Tips The O!Play Air features a full-function remote for navigating your media, complete with a unique dedicated button for instantly shuffling your music. Just press the Music Shuffle button, and O!Play Air accesses all the available music files for random playback. O!Play Air also works great as a photo viewer to easily share your vacation photos with your family and friends. Use the remote to control the slideshow. An excellent wireless update to the Asus O!Play HDP-R1 By buru buru piggu Only a few short months after the debut of the ASUS O!Play HDP-R1, Asus gives us the O!Play Air (HDP-R3). It adds wireless connectivity and a media card reader to an already solid media player. For users in search of a versatile wireless media device, this is a serious candidate for your entertainment dollar. Physically, the Air is identical to its predecessor. It's the same boxy plain-Jane black housing except with a new LED indicator (for Wi-Fi) on the front and 3 media reader slots on the left side (CompactFlash, SD, Memory Stick). Inside, it is the same Realtek chipset and software, therefore, it inherits all the strengths of the R1 as well as all its flaws. For more details on the usability issues, please read my review on the O!Play R1 page. Instead, I'll focus mostly on the wireless playback capability of the Air, since it is marketed principally as a wireless media player. If you don't need wireless, by all means, save yourself some $ and go with the R1. But if like me, your router and storage devices are too far from your media player/TV and you don't want to be running wires all over the house, then the Air is for you. An alternative is to use powerline ethernet technology, which sends network traffic through your home electrical wiring, but such adapters like the ZyXEL PLA401 200 Mbps Powerline HomePlug AV Wall-plug Adapter (Starter Kit--2 units) are an extra $80-150 to start (and you need at least 2). Like the R1, set up was a breeze. Do you have to supply your own HDMI cable though (only a composite is included). The AC adapter is very smartly designed and is a regular 2-prong plug like a laptop adapter, not an awkward wall-wart that blocks other sockets. A side benefit of this design is that it affords you about 12 feet of extra cordage to position the Air at a convenient spot on your desk or entertainment rack. Upon plugging it in, it goes to the configuration screen where you enter the video and network settings. It took several tries to find my SSID and connect to my network initially, but once configured, it works without a hitch and connects instantly upon powering up. It's now happily streaming hi-def content off my media servers in the basement (a DNS-321 and DNS-323 NAS (network attached storage)). The interface is still ugly, spartan, and a bit obtrusive (it'll do a needless connection speed test for EVERY file before you can play it), but now I have all the power and flexibility of the R1 without being tethered to a router. As reported by the unwanted speed test, I get anywhere from 11-17 Mb/s on average from my D-Link DIR-655 Extreme N Wireless Router running in mixed mode (g/b/n). Sometimes it's higher, but it's adequate for all my content which are mostly 720p MKV files ranging from 4GB to 11GB. It is able to see my Mac on the network and connect to it, but it couldn't see any files. Comparison to WD TV Live: ------------------------- I'm pleased with the ASUS O!Play line so far, and there's definitely a lot of room for improvement, but you are probably wondering how it stacks up against the Western Digital WD TV Live, its main rival. First, the Air gives you wireless connectivity straight out of the box. With the Live, you need to purchase a separate compatible N dongle (about $30), giving the Air an edge on price. With RMVB playback, a media reader, and an e-SATA port, the Air is a better value pound for pound, but it is twice the size of the Live and not much to look at. The Live has the edge on overall polish, design, and user-friendliness. The interface is beautiful and very intuitive. I don't have to drill down several layers through redundant network folders just to get to the videos directory. On the O!Play, I have to jump through a series of hoops. From the main menu I have to select: Movies -> Folder -> Network -> Workgroup -> DNS-321
