Charles O'Donnell, I bought the 2 TB version is nice to have our photos and music online so you can use our Bravia Sony and Blu Ray to browse photos or listen to music through our sound system. And my Internet Radio Grace Digital now has access to 4000 tracks on our local network. So I like it. But ... I connected as shown in our network and installed the Iomega software. The manager did not find the disc as it should. I logged on our router to find the IP address and add the device manually. It 'made. Minor inconvenience. Then I noticed that the NAS device advertised capacity of 1.8 TB, 2 TB do not. OK, 1.8 TB is still a whale of a storage space, but it is 2 TB. Now I have 8000 pictures and 4000 audio tracks on the disc, there are still 1.78 TB of free space. So a big problem. All folders on the NAS appeared on my list of folders in Windows Explorer, so I thought I could just all music and photos directly to the mapped drives seemed to work with music copying - no matter what the 15 hours it took to 18 GB copy - but the pictures are not good to copy everything. Some files were lost and only the majority of the others were corrupt. I tried to redistribution with a direct connection to the wired network instead of a wireless connection, but still no joy. What finally worked was to the FTP server on the NAS and to allow a client to use FTP (Filezilla in my case) to upload photos. Not all work and no corrupt files, it took a fraction of the time it took to copy the file. It worked so well that I deleted all songs and uploaded it a second time using FTP. Why risk it? It lasted two hours instead of 15. Nowhere could I have any tips on adding content to the device to find the instructions. That would have been helpful. I tried making the function of the personal cloud. The NAS will automatically configure the router, but failed to do so, I find not in a position, like the port forwarding configured on the router to do the work, any combination of IP address and port tries proposed was . Now my router is about 6 years, 2 years in hundreds of routers, so I bought a new router. It was less than $ 40 and I have not tried it yet, but I'll let you know. But true all the little inconveniences, no? But I can not respect the darn thing seems to be offline from time to time. I can not access it with the director or the web page. I have to reboot to make it work, and it will take seven forevers to restart. Summary: great concept, great result, if it works, but in a world where nothing is too easy, what excited me is a product of what it is, without hours of my time is not coming. It is still not there. UPDATE: The new router is not in itself sufficient for my own personal cloud, but when I UPnP feature is enabled on the router, the NAS was able to their ports still no joy to configure. I spoke to Iomega's technical support and they led me through their checklist, most of which I had already tried, but if they come from the ROM, you do not press the Cancel button. Everything seemed copacetic on my end as my next conversation with my ISP, Century link. I called Century Link's technical support and they are great. Dave Mac suggested that I needed to "bridge modem" and took me through the process step by step. In two minutes it was done and NAS synced up and made the connection. Yay! But I'm still figuring out the personal cloud and it seems to be affected or when trying to connect to miss. There's always something. 23 of 27 people found the following review helpful.
