AkiTio NT2LAN Personal / Small Business Cloud Server NAS With i-Sharing Software Dual Bay 2x3.5" SATA RAID HHD Quality Network Attach Storage Enclosure. Make it Safe and Easy to Store and Share Your Digital Life
The ultra compact design of the NT2 makes this dual-bay network storage enclosure one of the smallest in the market, yet it still packs a punch when it comes to flexibility and performance. With its low power consumption and the built-in UPnP-AV media server, this is the ideal solution to house all your media files and at the same time make them available day and night to your UPnP clients throughout your home. UPnP-AV Media Server The NT2 is designed to house two 3.5? SATA hard drives that you can setup according to your own preferences. For data security, select RAID 1 (mirror copy) and to make use of the largest possible storage capacity, select BIG (JBOD spanning). Data can be uploaded to the Gigabit network drive and shared from multiple workstations via SMB or FTP connection just like on any traditional NAS system. Two special features that set the NT2 LAN apart are that it has a USB printer server and a built-in UPnP-AV media server . These allow the device to share a printer among different computers, and make it possible to access and stream shared media files through a DLNA compliant player or a game console such as the Xbox 360 or the Playstation 3. Remote Access & File Browser Akitio's NT2 LAN offers remote web-based access for when you are on-the-road and a file browser with built-in media player to easily manage and view your files right in the web browser. Simply register your device, login through our web portal and you have immediate access to your files, no matter where you are. Create your own personal cloud and start sharing files with your friends and family. Let them use your device with the same ease and convenience as you already do and let them enjoy your media collection with you.

Nice small storage box for home network By Troy Backus I had been looking for a small Network Attached Storage device for about a year or so. Lots of searching, lots of visiting stores looking for something simple, relatively inexpensive, that I could replace the drives if needed. I purchased this box after some research. I'll get to the point, it just works. Period. It was kind of strange that you have to use a Windows or MAC app to "initialize" the box - I have been a Linux user for years, but when that is done it was available on the network and after I created a couple of users, was able to map my drives. Transfers were a tad slow, but I am only on 100mbit network at home. It is fast enough to stream videos from this box to my MythTV setup in the living room. File Sytem - It takes some getting used to - EVERY user gets a private folder and full access to the public folder which is shared amongst all users. No fine tuning of the user accounts allowed, No Quota system. Built in DDNS - You assign your box a name, then goto [...] Web Interface - It's ok. Flash based (booo) but does give you quick access to your files and allows you to do Bit Torrent and Downloads from the web. FTP - Works as advertised - again all users get access to Public and their Private Folder Album - I have no use for this, but there is a "photo album" you can place photos in (it does make a copy of the originals and places it in an album directory) and then share with friends... Seems to work ok, if not a little slow. Drives - I am using a pair of Western Digital 2TB WD20EARS Green Drives - 2 weeks so far and no issues with the drives. USB Copy - Neat feature. Plug in a USB drive (thumb or hard) and hit the copy button. A new folder will be created in Public/USB_Datetime_of_transfer. It is fairly slow - 384gb USB 2.0 drive took me about 5 hours to copy this way. But a great way to get the initial info on the drive from a thumb drive. OS - This thing runs Linux under the hood and you can SSH into the box and gain access to it. Issues - I did have an issue with the system allowing me to login to the web interface onces, then never again. Had to reboot the device to be able to login to the web interface. The drive mappings and FTP services remained unaffected. Tech Support sent me a new firmware file and that solved the problem. iPhone app - Akitio makes mention of an iPhone app on it's website, but I don't think it is for this device, at least I have not been able to make it work. But then again, a decent FTP app on my iPhone and I have access to whatever is stored on this device. Noise - the fan on the device is a tad loud. it sounds like a Cisco Switch or Router fan - slightly louder than a PC fan at full speed. I plan to move this device to a hidden spot soon so the fan will not be an issue. Conclusion- Good Device with a few quirks. I would buy one again. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great for backup and media streaming By Jack Love this box!!! It comes with a lot features and functions, but my use is pretty basic. The main reasons I bought this unit is to use it as a file backup and media server. I previously had all my media on a single bay and it crashed. So I wanted a dual by to avoid that painful experience again. I have 2 x 2TB Hitachi drives in there. I have it set as RAID 1 (mirror). Setup was very simple. I have 3 computers in the house. On the NT2-LAN, I backed up all my files from all 3 computers and also have all my movies, music and photos. I stream movies to my WDTV. With the RAID 1 setup, I don't have to worry about losing my data or media every again. See all 2 customer reviews...
