A Thorough (Long) Review from a Zune 30 Owner an a iPhone 3G Owner By Super Mum No matter your opinion on Microsoft, the amazing fact remains that every time they update a Zune they include a free software update for all past Zunes making them nearly identical as the new Zunes. I am sure one day this may stop due to the fact that the new hardware will require a different type of OS that won't work on the old Zunes (i.e. a Zune Touch or something). Until then, I am have been a very happy past/present Zune owner for this reason. I owned a Zune 30 for 2 1/2 years prior to buying the Zune 120. My old Zune worked perfectly and was not a factor in my decision to upgrade. Did I need the extra space? Not really... but I wanted to try out the touch/click "squircle" before the new Zune games were launched. I read that some games may not work (or work as intended) with the Zune 30 since it does not have the touch sensitive pad. We'll see how true that is when games are put on to the Marketplace. My opinion after owning the Zune 120 for a couple weeks: The Good: -I am a rabid/avid fan of the Zune Pass. I don't mind renting music, in fact I LOVE it. It really opens me up to new bands without wasting $10-20 on an album I may hate. For $14.99 a month [for unlimited downloads on up to 3 Zunes and 3 Computers] I can download from more songs than I can fathom and not be upset if I pick a few tone-deaf artists along the way. If I love an album enough to keep it I can buy it from Zune or Amazon or whomever. If you think about it, the Zune Pass could save you money by allowing you to test out bands before committing to a purchase. Also, if throwing a house party or having guests over, you can download music for your guests that you might never consider buying for yourself. -Audible support now available. Not sure how much I will use this feature yet but for now I like it and am happy I am not closed off from this option. -WiFi: the options are now amazingly more advanced and now having WiFi on the Zune makes sense. Being able to download songs over a WiFi connection is huge. McDonald's is teaming up with Zune and will be offering their WiFi connection to Zune owners in the near future. While iPod does this with Starbucks, there are many more McDonalds than Starbucks in the U.S. Though not sure if this is a good thing ;) -Channels!!!: I love the new channels built into the software. As a Zune Pass subscriber I love taking advantage of this. The software makes a "channel" once a week of songs it thinks I will like based on a genre (I have a "My Classic Rock" channel, "My Rock" channel, and since I share my Zune Pass with family members a "My R&B" channel). I choose which, if any, channels I want to subscribe to (so I can skip the R&B one if I desire) and it downloads a playlist of sorts that changes every week. Also, I can subscribe to other generic channels (i.e. "Rock" Channel, "Punk/Ska" Channel etc.) not tailored directly to me if I so desire. This has been a great way to sample new bands/music that have relevance to my music style. Of course if you love a song/artist you can always permanently download the songs. If you are an avid gym buff or runner there are some very cool channels titled "Walk" "Jog" and "Run" that have songs which consist of the same range of beats per minute to keep you moving at a constant speed. Very cool. -Mixview: Much better looking than "Genius" on iTunes since Mixview uses album art and artists pictures rather than plain old text and Mixview's suggestions seem more relevant to me than Apple's "Genius." This can always change in the future as each product develops and I am excited that there is competition in this arena since it can only make this better and better. If you don't know what Mixview is, it is Zune's way of gathering data based on your music preferences (and the preferences of others) to recommend new music to you.

I called Buffalo tech support and they advised me to and reset the device and update the firmware. That resolved the permissions issue. My only regret would be I didn't opt for the larger hard disks becasue I have the drives mirrored. other than that it's been about a week and no issues whatsoever. My only complaint is the drive access and cover should have been made a little more sturdy, that said the unit is quite and sleek looking. I noticed some reports in the Buffalo forum about Win 7 systems dropping the drive mappings but no such issues on my WinXP, Vista and Linux Ubuntu systems. I have local & remote access 24/7, I'm happy with my new NAS 19 of 20 people found the following review helpful. Excellent NAS By Justin E. Hester I had originally wanted to go with the Seagate BlackArmor unit but it was out of stock and after reading a number of reviews decided to go with the Buffalo unit. I'm very glad I did. Despite what some other reviewers have indicated, this current model works wonderfully and even in a mirrored raid has good response times. Of course the initial process of backing up and copying over data took a while but honestly, when running something in a raid configuration I'm not really expecting thumbdrive or SSD transfer rates. Considering it was transferring most of the data via wireless and in a raid configuration, it was fairly quick (approximately 5 hours from 4 systems simultaneously and a total of 200GB). Some may complain about this but I think those folks are expecting the unrealistic idea of copying from an internal 7200 RPM SATA to another internal 7200 RPM SATA. The reality is this was going over a wireless network and writing to 2 physical drives, not just one. So from my perspective this was a totally acceptable and quick data transfer. Reading from it is far quicker since it only needs to access a single drive for reading purposes and I can stream audio with no issues. I don't currently have any video to stream other than a handful of music videos that are scaled for 1024 x 768 and they steam without issues as well. All in all, a great purchase for the price and I already know that Buffalo stands behind their product. I know a few corp and state agencies that regularly use Buffalo NAS's in RAID for system wide backups, etc. 13 of 14 people found the following review helpful. Great Product By Brad Bouchard I am an AV Integrator and frequently use this product as a DNLA server for a wide variety of installations including AV receivers and Sonos music systems, I even have one at home. Works right out of the box without an extreme amount of IT knowledge. The IP interface is a little jargon filled as it can be used for a huge variety of backup tasks but as a music server I can't give it anything but praise. Cheap, quiet, solidly built. Thanks Buffalo. Lowenberg Little background on me: I owned or have owned a BH100, BH200, BD300, BD370 and BD390. So pretty much every LG Blu-ray player except the 270. Pros: Fast - I noticed DVD and Blu-ray loaded just a wee bit faster than my LG BD390. The difference wasn't amazing, but maybe a few seconds. VuDu, Netflix, Pandora etc - They work just as they should. VuDu is identical to that on the BD390, but Netflix is the new version that allows you to view new movies/TV to Instant, has Genres, collections etc. No, it's not EVERYTHING that [...] offers, but you probably have a rotating selection of 300 different programs to check out if you don't feel like breaking out the laptop. GracieNotes - Wow. Freakin' awesome. I managed to pull song information from a DVD, BD and a 'movie' file. As an added bonus; Hit the Display button while watching something (I assume DVD/BD only) and at the very bottom is 'Movie Information'. Click it and it will tell you what you are watching (small picture), synopsis, actor names etc. Woah! 250GB HD - Big selling point and works well. You are able to copy directly from an external HD/USB to the intern HD or via WiFi. Your choice. Obviously a wired copy will be faster than WiFi, so I set mine to copy 100GB from my external HD and went to bed. Woke up, and watched some stuff. Works very well and was fast. Maybe it can be upgraded? Out of the box it had 246GB out of 250GB available. So everything else is stored on internal memory. I bet this can be upped... WiFi - Faster. Before, VuDu was a bit choppy, but now it was perfect. DNLA - Works fine on my MacBook (some had issues?) Cons: Pandora - Ok, it's great to finally get this, but why can't I assume the colored buttons to be an easy Thumb Up, zzzz, Thumbs Down, Bookmark? Seems like it would be much easier, but the colored buttons do other things in Pandora. Feels like a wasted opportunity. Music on HD - Well, it won't play iTunes DMR files or ones in m4a format (iTunes automatically converts them this way when you rip from CD unless you tell it not to). I spent 2 hours converting everything in my library to .mp3 so I could import them. Funny thing is, it actually imports the folder name, but none of the tracks. Took me a while to figure out why it skipped several CDs (I did 10 right away). Size - Why is this bigger? I get it has a 250GB HD inside, but those are the size of an iPhone and the back of the units reeks of being a Gen2 unit and not a Gen5 version. Menu - Sigh. All of the online stuff is in the Netcast icon, which means you have to click it, wait for it to load, and then you get presented with Netflix, VuDu etc. An extra step, but c'mon, there is a ton of room on that menu screen. Which is now redesigned to look like animated Ice Cubes in a pool. Odd choice... Picture Settings - Remember how the BD390 could allow you to add/remove Edge Enhancement, DNR etc. That's gone. I even tried using my BD390 remote and the player didn't do anything. WTF? This is the top of the line player (out of 3 now!) and this was removed? Update: FIXED! The Picture Setting Menu is now found when you hit 'Display' during a movie. There are as many options as the BD390, but its better than none. USB - Really, under a trap door? I get that some people may not want to pull their gear out to plug in a USB dogle, but get a $2 extension. Thankfully, with the Internal HD, I'll never use it. Meh: Remote - I don't hate it...but I like the BD590. I'll never use the numbers, so I would prefer them to be hidden in a trap door so I would have less to look at. The Center and arrow keys do feel better, and the Power button is HUGE compared to the identical sized Power/Eject of the previous. The Play/Pause/Skip are clear white...not sure why. They don't glow. So confused. DVD Upconversion - Looks about the same. 116 of 120 people found the

Most helpful customer reviews 8 of 9 people found the following review helpful. it works ok but has issues By snuffy I put two 2tb drives in and formatted ext4 in a mirror. Data access has never been an issue. As a flat out simple NAS it has good speed and works well for data storage. Where this falls down is the value added apps. Youtube didnt work out of the box. Twonky server never worked either. I connected a printer to the USB port and that didnt work at all I downloaded the latest firmware and that fixed the youtube issue. I posted on their website and the tech there gave me a private build build of firmware to fix the printing issue. Interestingly enough a week later it quit printing again, so I had to go back to apples bonjour printing which works with no issues (install apple software on windows to get it to print to a linux box) Twonky media server is a cool piece of software, unfortunately it has never worked. There are several complaints on the forums about this and no resolution (I have a Sony BD player.) Would be very nice to have this working. Instead I ended up buying a netgear neo 550 media player (it plays BD ISO's with menus)since the twonky player was useless. Overall its a decent NAS, has good file I\O speed and works well as a basic NAS. The add-ons are problematic. I wish they would test them first before they make them available. Good ideas but execution is bad. I rated 3 stars because the NAS does whats its supposed to do and share files. I am docking 2 stars as the other parts flat out dont work. I will give cudos to the forum support at ReadyNAS as they do seem responsive. Snuffy 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. works maybe until it upgrades to the newest firmware By Kangagoo My goal was to get a a high quality NAS to store data on our home network. Nothing too fancy, but it should have some safety (RAID 1) and save me the time of installing and configuring a small dedicated linux server. Additionally the savings in electricity as such a small box does not drain much power. So I was ready to pay the premium price for a two hard drive NAS from QNAP.Got the QNAP-219P+ two days ago. It is very well made, as one can expect for the price. At the same time I got two 2 TB consumer grade hard drives (Samsung and WD). Installed the hard drives, started up the NAS. The web interface looks great and I configured the two hard drives for RAID 1 (mirroring). Did also configure the network services for "Microsoft Networking", "Apple Networking" and "NFS Networking" (Linux), as I have all three types of computers on the network. I let the formatting/sync for RAID 1 run over night as I took about 6-7 hours. In the morning I was able to access the public NFS share over the network. Now the ugly part. When logging into the web interface, I was told that there was a firmware update available and if I wanted to install it. Sure, that's what one usually does if you get a new piece of hardware, right? Firmware (3.5.1 Build 1002T) gets downloaded, installed and the NAS reboots. The network share is gone. Looking in the web interface the "Mirroring Disk Volume: Drive 1 2" is "unmounted". Why? I cannot re-mount the volume. Clicked on "FORMAT NOW" or "REMOVE NOW" for this volume, nothing works. Then I go have a look into the "System Status" tab to understand what the problem is: "Loading data, please wait..." . After 15 min. the NAS reboots and still nothing is working. No chance to see what the system status is. I try the "Restore to Factory Default" as a last resort. Accepts my command, then displays "Busy" forever (after two hours nothing has changed).I have no idea what the problem is. Maybe it's the NAS, maybe it's the hard drives. There is no error message, nothing. No way to re-mount, format, disconnect the volume or reset to factory default. The only thing the "System Event Log" tells me is that smbd and nmbd are restarting every minute. Which is not too astonishing as they have no volume to work on.So

Setup is a breeze and it even came with a DVI cable to hook up to my TV. It also has RCA cables. I have almost 1TB of movies in various formats(.avi .wmv .mpg) and it plays every one. Sometimes I cannot use the skip function if it doesn't fully support the file but it still always plays it. Transferring the files over was a bit harder. It was going to take 7 days to copy 1TB of files over from my server to the hard drive on the unit that I put in it. I even tried a direct cable and it was just as slow. I don't think it does any conversion but it is very slow. When you add a new hard drive in this unit, it formats it with Linux. When I put the drive from the Digital Entertainer in my Windows server it wanted to format the drive. I had to boot into a Linux OS and then I was able to copy the files over very quickly. The software that comes with the unit is pretty nice also. It lets you tag each movie file with information from the Internet Movie Database. It even displays a box cover. This unit also stores and plays music as well as Youtube videos streaming from the Internet. It will connect to your network by wireless or wired, or it can simply be a standalone unit. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because of the search feature in the unit. When I want to search for example, the movie "Zoolander", I input the letter "Z" from the remote and instead of filtering every movie that starts with "Z", it lists every movie with the letter "Z" in it like this... American Zombie Brazil Crazy People Dazed and Confused Hot Fuzz Zoolander It's kind of a convoluted search in my opinion. Other than that, the Digital Entertainer is a top notch unit. It has a very user friendly interface with a nice remote control. It also has 2 USB ports and it can play media directly off of those or the media can be transferred to the hard drive. Netgear did a good job on the Digital Entertainer Elite! 33 of 36 people found the following review helpful. Almost perfect... By B. Campbell Let me start by saying I was NOT looking for a Windows Media Center Extender, I was looking for a device that could handle my library of stored media (movies and music), especially it's ability to play DVD images, including the disc menus. For this purpose (provided you have a wireless N or wired network connection) the EVA-9150 is a solid choice, handling virtually any file format you can throw at it without problems. The Digital Entertainer Elite also streams Internet radio stations, and has a nifty RSS feed reading applet built-in. An application is included that does a decent job of helping you catalog your media library, including tools to help facilitate the creation of tags for media files. My favorite feature in this by far is the ability to go pre-fill a tag with information from IMDB: just go to the page for the movie, click the "fill" button, and all of the information about the movie populates the appropriate fields! The EVA-9150 includes a 500GB hard drive, but unless your home network is slow and you're having buffering problems, I doubt it would be of much use. If it is, you can swap it out for drives of up to 1TB in size. Output options are plentiful, including HDMI, component and digital outputs, as well as standard composite and analog audio, so interfacing to virtually any home theater system is realatively easy. Wireless and wired networking are built in and easy to use, and software is included to help you catalog the media on the various devices you may have around your house. Overall, I found everything relatively easy to use for a person familar with PCs and home theater, though the sheer number of options may be intimidating to a novice. One place where there's room for improvement is the 9150's ability to play various forms of streaming video from the Internet. Netgear will be

Xtreamer DVD is first and foremost a DVD player. The difference with other DVD Players on the market is that this DVD player is also a full-function Media Player & Streamer. Why buy Xtreamer DVD Player By Ruzveh When we can get all these functions and even more on the BluRay player for the same price then why should we go for simple DVD Player with advanced feature for high price? I dont think its worth buying this one. We also donot know the quality of capacitor used inside and its longevity. See all 1 customer reviews...

After months of searching I now believe the best ones are the ones that match your needs most, after price point. Here is my review after a night well spent learning the ins and outs. Pros- Wifi-- This year Wifi will be all the rage. Set up with my samsung after a slight learning curve took 20 mins tops and once connected it worked flawlessy. I didn't even need to read the manuel. Superb and blazing fast! Pandora--what a terrific gem of a music program. And its free! The learning curve is super easy and fun. I was able to program it from my mobile phone, and there it is two seconds later. I am a happy camper! Netflix-- Great. super simple! Netflix needs more choices, but that is not Samsung's fault. wifi dongle!- They could have charged for this. They didn't. Great! cons, if it is one--The player feels flimsy upon first contact so that you almost want to be super gentle with it. As opposed to the sturdier players out there. If that concerns you, i suggest you hold a floor model first and decide for yourself. Also, still no hdmi plugs offered with the majority of players, this one included. Makes no sense at this point. Luckily i have spares. Overall- a solid player, with wonderful audio and visual clarity. My test for blu ray, The Dark Knight. Looked amazing, sound oustanding. Test for upscale, Wall-E. Looked incredible and rich. Nice job samsung!!! UPDATE: Not sure what all the griping is about for a select few, but I watched Punisher Warzone on this player, a hard hitting film if there ever was one and this player did not hiccup. Audio and visual clarity were fantastic!! Also just watched quantum of solace. No issues. A little lag in the load time but I suspect that has to do with the dvd not the player. Sounded and looked great!! Be cautious of those few on here who get one bad lemon and decide the whole basket is rotten. Three and a half month update: Still no problems to report with this player. I have not had one single issue with any movie I have thrown at it and I have now played over 200 films on it. it's a workhorse. It also plays copies of pretty much any DVD you have burned from a computer hard drive. I'll say it again, great product! This blu ray player has gone done in price remarkably since it first dropped. It's orginal asking price, for those of you coming to it now, was nearly 400.00 dollars. It is now nearly 50 percent less. This is a real steal folks. 323 of 332 people found the following review helpful. Black and Blu By Chris Boylan I've never felt so conflicted about a piece of home theater gear in my life. On the one hand, the BD-P3600 offers very good to excellent audio and video performance on DVDs and Blu-ray Discs as well as some great internet streaming features. On the other hand the "PC Streaming" feature is frustratingly hard to use and unreliable to the point that I finally gave up trying to get it to work. A few die-hard audio/videophiles were worried when Samsung chose not to include the excellent Silicon Optix Reon HQV video processor in this year's line-up of Blu-ray Disc players. The DVD upconversion on last year's BD-P2500 was outstanding and many of us were concerned that its omission from the BD-P3600 would lead to noticeably inferior standard def performance. Turns out there was little to worry about as both the DVD and Blu-ray performance of the BD-P3600 are excellent, comparable to Panasonic's DMP-BD80 and superior to LG's BD370. Also, with on-board decoding of Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio over HDMI/PCM and multi-channel analog outputs, the audio performance and flexibility of the BD-P3600 is also excellent. Throw in the included WiFi dongle, BD-Live support, quick disc loading, Netflix online streaming and Pandora internet radio and you get one full-featured high performance Blu-ray player. That

Moore I purchased this as an upgrade to my beloved Archos 605 160GB. I actually purchased this directly from archos because I had trouble getting it through Amazon. First impressions: beautiful sleek design, love the rubbery backside and the enlarged screen! I find that the touch screen user interface is quite improved over the 605, the buttons all flash when you press them so that is a nice confirmation that you hit it. Also, play buttons and such seem to be bigger than before, easier to hit. Although the glossy, shiny look is pretty to look at, it also shows fingerprints (much like the Touch). Not a big deal to me, I'm used to wiping off my glossy surfaces regularly. So lets get into the nitty gritty, starting with the things I love about the new Archos 5. Just one caveat, I am using this primarily as a replacement media player for the Archos 605 so I won't speak much to internet browsing issues. I will use as a basis of comparison my collection of MP3 players (ok I'm an addict so sue me!) which includes iPod Touch 2nd Gen 32GB, Creative Zen WiFi 16GB, iPod Classic 160GB, Archos 605 160GB, Archos 604 30GB, iRiver Clix2 8GB. *) 250GB: gotta love all that storage space, especially since the new Apple Classic tops out at 120GB now it seems Archos is in a class all to itself. *) Big beautiful glossy color screen, definitely an improvement over 605. *) Easily connected to my Wifi, browser is now free instead of costing extra like before. Upgrade to firmware was accomplished easily. *) Easy synchronization of my entire music library and playlists using Media Monkey in Windows Media Mode (605 had problems here, so glad Archos fixed this!) *) Beautiful full featured DVR dock available (apple doesn't even make one as far as I can tell!) *) Esthetically the most appealing player I've seen yet from Archos. *) Nice context menus on most pages (tap upper right corner) that make it easy to get around. *) Love the ability to switch between hard drive mode and Windows Media Mode (something I do quite frequently). Also nice to be able to put a password on folders with sensitive or Adult content. *) Ability to play all kinds of audio/video files, although you do have to pay up to $40 for additional plugin firmware in order to play apple and cinema formats. *) On screen touch qwerty keyboard is really nice, easy to use -- I found it much easier to type accurately than the Touch/iPhone onscreen keyboard. *) Browser supports flash controls, woohoo, welcome to the 21st century fercrissakes! *) That 250GB of data is readily available to the PC as a hard drive so I can use it for backups or whatever else I want to do with it. (unlike the Creative Zen for example). *) Convenient built-in speaker can be used in a pinch: everybody seems to have one of these now but as far as I can tell Archos did it first on the 605! *) Now Playing music screen is easier to use, volume, and play buttons are easier to use now and it displays the name of the next and previous songs: a feature that I don't see on any of my other MP3 players. *) Nice dedicated volume and power buttons, the volume buttons are definitely easier to find and use than the 605. And now, my suggestions to Archos for how they could improve on what I think is a cutting edge beautiful product. Please understand, I'm a nitpicking software engineer so I give 5 stars even though I can find room for improvement! *) I miss the dedicated hold/tv-out button which has been removed. Not a big deal since can still be done through the context menu. *) Some of the text menus just look a little strange and seem to take a too much space on the screen. For example, I have to scroll down to get to the "Playlists"... at the very least "Playlists" should be on the first page as its the one I use the most. Really it seems like too many button presses are required to dig down and play

Below are a few things I found while installing the unit: My current entertainment center could not accommodate the changer due to its extremely large size. The width of the unit is pretty standard for a component; however, the height is 9.5 inches and almost 22 inches deep. My entertainment center does not have adjustable shelving, therefore the changer will not fit, and I will have to purchase a new shelving unit (bummer, but not a show stopper). Once connected to my HDTV and surround receiver, the unit was very easy to set up via the onscreen guide. Initial set up was pretty quick, loading discs was not. Okay, on loading my collection of 283 discs, the player began "Loading Disc Information" from Gracenote via the Internet. ***YOU MUST CONNECT THIS UNIT TO THE INTERNET*** or you will be forced to manually type the information into the player. I bring this up as I previously stated that I loaded 283 discs, and all but 12 could not be found on Gracenote. Why is this important? Well, you must type it in manually...... via the remote!! Prior models of this changer had a computer keyboard input for this, however, this one does not. Not a huge deal if it's only a few titles (it was like sending a text message a few years ago before QWERTY keyboards appeared on phones, for the letter "c" you have to hit the number 2 key three times, etc.) Actually, for 12 titles it was painful. The player connected via the Internet to Gracenote for disc information. This process is time consuming so be patient. The "Loading Disc Information" portion for 283 discs took roughly 2 hours and 45 minutes. Once complete the changer will initially alphabetize your collection and place all the discs that it could not find at the top of each folder (e.g., Photo, Music or Video, etc.) This is where you have to type in the disc information. Gracenote, hum, not so sure about this. Sort of strange results as I have both a DVD and Blu-ray version of a few movies and they are cataloged differently on the player. One example is "Young Frankenstein" one version is placed under "comedy" and the other under "horror". Also, it appears random, however, Gracenote found the movie "Airplane" which is roughly 29 years old, but could not find or have record of "The Wizard of Oz" on Blu-ray. Also, on boxed sets, it found some but not all of the collection (e.g., "Family Guy" it found disc 1, 2 and 4, leaving disc 3 to be manually entered???) On BD-Live, pretty cool. You will need a USB thumb drive of at least 1 GB. And, the drive slot is on the back of the unit. So I would recommend that you place the drive in first before you place this unit into a cabinet and connect all the cables, as once you get going and then decide you need it, it's a bit cumbersome getting to the back of this unit (especially since it will be loaded with up to 400 discs, etc.) On the rental slot, start loading your collection in slot number 2 as the "quick" rental slot is reserved for slot number 1. If you don't plan on using this, which I don't, then begin loading with slot 1. Actually, you can start loading disc wherever you want, just thought I would point that out. Lastly, many of your DVD's will be located under multiple folders (e.g., Photo's and Video's) as the disc may contain JPEG images, which will qualify them as photo's, etc. Well, I have only had the player now for roughly 27 hours and love it thus far. I will update this review if I experience any strange behavior or if something dramatically changes my opinion. UPDATE 11/14/2009: One month later, I still love it! There are reader comments and responses (below under comments) however, I thought I should make note that the player performed well with a power outage (I intentionally unplugged the unit to perform this test). This is extremely

Inability to switch audio track during playback (MKV, DVD, divx etc). You can do it, but you need to restart the movie. Very strange design decision here. 2. First DTS track hangs your system in DTS mode. Meaning, you won't be able to watch anything at all after watching video with DTS track until you hard reboot your system 3. "clever" advertising: On the box it says: Netfilx, YouTube and more. (then in small letters (via PlayOn, running on your computer as server). What that means, is the following: this device DOES NOT HAVE a native Netflix client. Now let's compare it with the very first line of the product description, which declares: "BREAK FREE FROM YOUR PC!". Hmmmmmm. 4. Two hangs on MKVs over 10GB in size. I shipped it back and I had to pay for it. No $$$ back yet. (I bought two of them as gifts) Will see what's going to happened next 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. killer media server for regular people By R. Freeman you dont need roku boxee or anything else if youre computer savvy. this box will play just about anything and if you acquire your own media for it then you dont need netflix or ANY other source. if you do not have ethernet near where youll install this box then you MUST get the wireless dongle which works great. I have streamed dvd isos which play exactly like a physical dvd would. also have streamed hd and it looks and plays great. video rss feeds work well to though I will be adding a hard drive to make the playback easier [ forget pausing streamed media from the net ]. for the price this thing is very hard to beat and I am someone who a year ago bought the netgear digital entertainer 9150 for 3 times the price from amazon and netgear has abandoned it [though it still works]. once again, if youre a downloader this is the box for your media. period. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. M200 UEBO player does NOT support bit torrent By MK M200 can play video files both on the network and from a hard drive which of course is NOT included and you have to buy one and install later. However, despite of what the advertisement claims it does NOT support BT downloads. In all firmware releases posted on their support site, and I did try them all, there seems to be a persistent bug which causes the BT process to die after a few minutes, sometimes a few hours. As a set top player it is quite all right and works as advertised, but do not expect to retire your PC it torrent software any time soon. See all 8 customer reviews...

Farnsworth I bought the 2TB version of this (but not the version that has two physical drives). I'm not really all that interested in having the redundancy of RAID, weird programs backing up my computer when I'm not around, or software that allows me to connect to it remotely. I just want to throw my data on there from any one of the computers on my network and be able to get it off reasonably quickly, and I want it to go to sleep when I'm not using it. This drive does those things well. I was looking for a drive that: 1. allows me to ssh in and tweak things by hand if I want 2. goes to sleep when not in use and wakes up without a problem 3. is cheap, quiet, and looks good 4. is fast enough for my needs 5. doesn't have any gotchas that impair its use significantly In these respects this drive performs well. The first thing I did when I got it was enable ssh, which you can do through the web menu. Then I logged in and disabled the mionet script. Mionet is the software that allows you to log in remotely, but it's apparently the buggiest and most wasteful program ever. You can supposedly disable this through the menu but it comes back on when you are not looking, so you actually need to physically go in and disable the startup script. I'm a linux guy so this was no problem. There are some howto's on the web that will tell you how to do this. I played around with twonky, which is the software for playing media through UPnP. I think it's a cool idea, but the truth is that I have no need for it. I don't need/want to stream to anything but computers, and in that case it's easier to just map this drive and play the movie or song from that computer using my normal software. So I disabled twonky as well. It seemed to have a bunch of spawned processes, so this was probably a good thing. This also needs to be done through ssh. I didn't install any of the software that comes on the CD's or anything. Apparently that software is crap anyway. I'm not sure what I would want it for. This drive works once you stick it on the network...no configuration necessary. I can get to the drive either by referencing its IP address or the hostname I gave it through the web interface. The drive is silent and unobtrusive. The led white bar on the front slowly flashes on and off if it's sleeping and moves up and down if it's not. You can disable these leds through the web interface so it's even less obtrusive. I was worried that the sleep feature wouldn't work correctly but it works perfectly, which is one big plus about this drive. You don't notice it go to sleep because it's so quiet anyway, but it does after 15 minutes or something of not being used. Then when you try and read from it again it starts up quickly and there's no fuss. No need to turn it off or mess with it in any way, ever. Nice. Performance is...pretty ok considering the type of device it is. According to the reviews I read, this drive is fast compared with others in its class. If you want something real fast, you have to pay up. Anyway, I have a gigabit network and I do realize you can't ever actually get the theoretical optimal speed. For reference (indicator of how good my network is or isn't), when I copy from one computer to another (both pretty fast computers) using SMB I get about 19.5 MB per second. When I use SMB to copy something onto this NAS I get about 10.8 MB per second. It's not as fast as copying to a computer, but I knew that going in. This is a powersaving and inexpensive device and both of those say it won't match performance of a fast computer with a PCI express gigabit connection. Anyway, when I read from it I get more like 16 MB per second or a little more. That's nearly as fast as a computer-to-computer copy. So I'm satisfied. I can certainly watch movies off of this drive directly without any skipping or anything. If you
