Not ready for prime time By DigitalDave The hard drive in this unit loses it's connection with the wireless, but only when 3/4 through a movie sitting on its hard drive. Do yourself a favor and consider other products. Our experience has been less than fulfilling. 0 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Promises a lot, not quite ready for prime time By Shopper Got this unit after a recommendation from a colleague who has a large personal collection of movies. I don't, but still thought would give it a shot. Bottom line: my particular unit got quite hot after about 20 mins of viewing videos, maybe that is normal, but I don't want to risk watching full length movies on it. So returning it for that reason and for one other reason: it lacks a killer feature, that of being able to connect to Netflix or Amazon for movie streaming. If it had Netflix capability, I would have requested a replacement unit. As such, not worth giving it a second chance. (if it had worked fine, yes I would have kept it.) But if you already have a nice collection of personal movies, and the unit heat is not an issue, then this is a nice piece of hardware. Pluses: it is very small, quite portable if you are traveling and want to take it along, and looks absolutely fabulous if you like minimal, black mediatronics. Goes very very well with my other media hardware. Setup is also a breeze (entering a long wireless network password with the minimalist remote is a bit painful, but hey it is one-time, and the wireless setup worked flawlessly). It has many outputs in the back. HDMI was the only one I tried and it worked great. The remote works great, if you have kids who want to watch photos/movies, it is drop dead simple to operate. Minuses: Unit heats up, could be the one piece I got. Benefit of doubt given. Lacks any useful killer features like Netflix, so all that connectivity is wasted (oh yeah, it can connect to FlickR. Whoop-de-do.) If you are picky, then the remote menu can be a bit too simplistic, and folder-view for photos/movies is not rich. It feels more like a Video camera remote than a media center remote. But hey, either you like simple or you don't. For this price, LaCie has to beef up features. You can buy your own 1TB HD, and a Western Digital player, and have it all. See all 2 customer reviews...
