I believe his review is based on the lack of that knowledge.I own 4 of these and have NO issues with them. They work seamless for me and have for 6+ months.I like them and would purchase again if I needed more. 2 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Paperweight; don't bother; you will lose [...] - like I did By Alexander Lee Why a paperweight?(1) So buggy it locks up like 50% of the time. Click on one button, (like when you're navigating the directories for example), and 50% of the time the NaS locks up and is inoperable -- yes, that means, broken until you restart the NaS. It is sssoooooo very buggy, and when you restart the NaS, you have to restart it manually -which can take 10 minutes to wait around for. With such a egregious failure rate, this is not a NaS, but a paperweight.(2) Virtually no product support. Why. At the time I bought this NaS adapter, the amazon.com description of it was like one small paragraph. And each sentence was too brief to describe what it actually does. For one, as a Newbie myself to NaS, I had a hard time understanding what each Very Brief Sentence was saying. And when I checked the manufacturer's product website, their information was almost just as sketchy. = No Product Support. Technically, you can e-mail their support, but there are no product support on their product website to begin with, and no forums on this product (so people with questions can post their questions and get answers from either the manufacturer or other users), and who wants to e-mail support everytime one has a question? = no product support.(3) Made in China . Okay. I don't like to talk negatively about what country a product was manufactured in, but after noting this product, was bottomline, a paperweight after I used it and gave up on it as a paperweight, I thought to myself, "Made in China" -- figures. I have nothing against "Made in China", but this product will not be a service to people or customers who want a quality NaS.****************************************************************************************************************************************I apologize that I didn't write a review sooner, that is entirely my fault. I should warn people about this product and tell them to spend their hard earned money on something that I feel Amazon.com reviews gave a high rating to when buying a NaS. I don't like to thrash products with a negative review like "1 star- paperweight", but I can't go with my feelings of compassion here, I feel it is my duty, in the end, to warn customers that basically, if a product is a waste of their hard-earned money, and that their money is better spend on other products, then I should do so, because in the end, that would be my duty to do. So I apologize, and here is my review.I have nothing against the manufacturer, or products made in China, but customers are better off spending their hard-earned money on NaS's that works, not ones that don't.*****************************************************************************************************************************************One good thing about this product: The NaS can be used as a printer server, and it works just A-Okay as a printer server. I didn't have too much trouble hooking up my desktop Windows Vista Computer to the printer connected to this NaS, that part worked out fine. So yes, as a printer server, it worked just fine for me. But I wanted to buy a NaS (which happens to also be able to act as a printer server), not just only, yes only, a printer server. If I wanted a printer server, I would have bought just a printer server. But I wanted to buy a NaS, and bottomline, this is not working as a

Amazon Sales Rank: #67034 in Home Theater Brand: Toshiba Model: RS-TX20 Dimensions: 7.81" h x 16.25" w x 19.25" l, 13.00 pounds DVD recorder/player with built-in 120 GB hard drive and free TiVo Basic service (pause, rewind, instant replay, 3-day advance recording) Up to 140 hours of audio/video storage on hard-disk drive (HDD); records to DVD-R or DVD-RW DVD offers ColorStream Pro progressive-scan output for use with high-definition and HD-ready TVs Front-panel IEEE 1394/DV input provides a quick and easy connection with a compatible digital camcorder Measures 16.5 x 3.3 x 13 inches (W x H x D)

Toshiba's RS-TX20 Digital Media Server is two high-tech components in one: a full-featured DVD recorder/player and a TiVo Series2 digital video recorder with free TiVo Basic service included with purchase. The unit's high-capacity, 120 GB hard-disk drive (HDD) stores up to 140 hours of audio/video storage (depending on the quality level you select), while DVD recording gives you the option for archiving your VHS and camcorder footage and for easy recording of your favorite TV programs. A convenient, front-panel DV input (IEEE 1394) is perfect for quick transfers of camcorder material onto the hard-disk drive and then to DVD. The unit also comes with a 45-day free trial of the TiVo Plus service so you can try features unique to the TiVo Plus service, including the ability to search for programs by title, set up Season Pass recordings for your favorite shows, and create actor, director, and keyword WishLists searches. With TiVo Basic Service included and without paying a subscription fee, you can record your favorite TV shows onto the HDD and watch them on your schedule. You can also record content from the hard disk drive to a DVD media (DVD-R or DVD-RW--does not record to DVD-RAM discs) quickly and easily. The easy-to-use TiVo interface can automatically create a DVD menu for easy navigation. DVDs can be named according to your program selections, or you may manually enter a title. This is a great DVD player, too. Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the RS-TX20 will deliver the full potential of your commercial DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, gives you higher resolution and sharper images than standard 480i signals while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. Toshiba's Digital Cinema Progressive feature (3:2 pulldown detection and reversal) digitally corrects frame distortion in film-based material to display a film-frame-accurate picture. The recorder/player offers 1 set of ColorStream Pro component-video outputs (selectable for 480p/480i), 2 composite-video-based AV inputs, 1 S-video input, and 1 RF coaxial input (for an antenna signal or a feed from an older VCR or cable box). A set of left/right analog-audio outputs channel audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions, while both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's Toslink optical digital-audio output for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. The DVD drive is fully compatible with your MP3 and WMA music CDs and will even play discs full of your favorite JPEG digital photos for ready-made slide shows right in your living room. A supplied IR blaster cable for cable-box and satellite receiver control (C3 Control) connects to the back of the recorder and transmits an infrared (IR) signal to change channels on your cable or satellite box, as needed, for advance recording--freeing you from having to pretune the correct channel ahead of time. The included, no-fee TiVo Basic service features a 3-day rolling program guide, TV "Trick Play" features (such as the ability to pause and rewind live TV), instant replay/instant skip, and manual recording capability with repeat function. The unit is fully upgradeable to the TiVo Plus Service (subscription required: $12.95 per month or a "product lifetime" fee of $299 that's good for as long as your RS-TX20 remains operational), which includes TiVo's Home Media Option for remote (online) scheduling, access to MP3/JPEG digital media files from your PC, and multi-room viewing with no additional TiVo receivers. What's in the Box DVD/HDD recorder/player, a remote control, remote batteries, an IR blaster cable, a user's manual, a stereo analog audio interconnect/composite-video cable, and warranty/registration information.

By Jeff Erz This is a pretty nice unit. 120GB hard drive, which means 32 to 141 hours of recording capacity depending on video quality. MPEG encoding artifacts become pretty apparent in motion scenes at medium quality (94 hrs) so I'm sticking with High for most recordings, which means 46 hrs storage on the hard drive. Of course the great positive here is that you can archive to DVD the stuff you want to keep. There's no editing of the material before you burn, but if you have a PC at home, you can always rip the DVD and probably edit more easily there. This unit, as well as the Pioneers, has a major advantage in that it comes with TiVo basic (3-day program guide, no "season pass", "wish lists" or home media features) so you don't have to pay TiVo the $13/mo subscription unless you really want that stuff.A few nits:* menus can seem pretty slow at times, as does the program guide* does not display amount used/free on hard drive* even "live tv" is displayed with "best" compression (i.e. not the native line-in signal)* DVD burns are only at the same quality you originally recorded the show* remote is too symmetrical; i've pointed it the wrong way 3 times already!* $100 rebate requires perhaps 10-12 weeks of premium TiVo subscriptionAs for the HD complainers, come on. How many people are even receiving HD content, let alone recording it? Since the dawn of analog videotape, home recording options have always been inferior in quality to broadcast/prerecorded-content. I agree that if you have satellite HD, it's much more compelling to go with an integrated DVR/converter box that can save the programming in its native format. But most of us don't live in that world. We just want to time-shift our shows. I had been using a VCR up till now and this is much better. I don't doubt there will be better recorders in the future, but this is a nice combo IMHO.BTW, I suggest doing a websearch/price-compare as you may not find your best deal here (hint hint). 15 of 15 people found the following review helpful. A Nifty Machine By Peter Eavis PROS:1) The unbeatable feature is the ability to record to DVD. The recording is fast and the quality is always solid. A lot of cable companies' DVRs make archiving to DVD impossible. It is also very easy to do the recording, since the machine tells you how much of the blank dvd you will use up.2) The other huge pro is the fact that this can be added to your home network, meaning you can port over songs and photos to the Toshiba.3) Though somewhat lengthy, set up is very easy -- even the remote.4) TiVo interface much more useful than anything put out by my cable company. I much prefer to use it over the cable DVR.CONS:1) No HDTV through this, but I just rented an extra cable box for $9/month for recording shows in HD. I use that for shows that I know will be in HD (and there aren't that many). The fact is, no DVD player plays in HD yet (soon to arrive at a high price). However, you can't have the two cable boxes in the same room easily, due to remote confusion (the cable remote will change the TiVo box and mess up recordings, so use separate rooms if you want the 2 box solution).2) A small con. If you do want to hook this into the network you do need a wireless adapter that is now discontinued. These are plentiful on eBay (and cheaper than the new generation adapters), but you can't just walk into your local electronics shop and pick up the adapter you need. TiVo does list the adapters that work. Networking it was no problem whatsoever. 14 of 14 people found the following review helpful. The good, bad and the ugly... By FrankNL Good: It works, it is addictive, it changes the way you watch TV...Bad: Well, the picture quality is not too good, the free TIVO service only has a three-day TV schedule (although you can plan manual recordings further ahead), the connectivity is complicated, the

Powell I'd been looking for something to convert many of my LPs to ditigal formats. The iRecord is the first that makes the job simple, easy and convenient. No sound board, no having to drag the computer around the house. Just plug the iRecord into your audio set-up and play your records on the phonograph. I use a datastick for transfer to my computer and, ultimately, to my iPod via iTunes. (You can record directly to an iPod, but the interface with iTunes becomes more complicated.) The folks behind the iRecord are responsive and helpful with a less than 24-hour turnaround to my questions. All in all, a great experience. (Why 4 rather 5 stars? Just that recording LPs is not as simple as CDs and DVDs. I did have to communicate with the company, but got prompt, accurate support.) 24 of 28 people found the following review helpful. irecord By Hr Block Client I think the irecord is great, although, they should let you know that any DVD with anti-piracy restrictions can only be uploaded directly to your ipod. They will not transfer to flash drives or external hard drives. I bought the irecord to create an extensive mp4 video collection. This is going to be really tough to accomplish unless they come out with a 1000GB ipod. The discription of the irecord is misleading, at best, hence the 2 stars. I would have never spent the $199.99 had I known this before. Also your external hard drive has to be in fat-32 format. I bought three of them before I found one that I could format to fat-32. Many store reps. have told me that they don't even make fat-32 hard drives anymore. They do. Use a Black Passport 80GB, 120GB, 160GB external hard drive. Other than that, I would have to say that their tech. support team has been wonderful. That is the only reason they get 2 stars instead of 1. The irecord also gets really hot after about 30 minutes of use. I always allow time for it to cool down, but I am expecting this will be my next issue. Good luck. 7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Worth every penny!! By Paul Schmidt This product is fabulous!!!! It does everything that is promised. I was able to put music from old LPs, and 45s into my IPod as well as a bunch of movies. The on-line directions could be more clear but IT WORKS! I suggest you put everything into your computer using a flash drive first, import to ITunes and THEN sync your IPod or ITouch. If you put movies and music directly into your IPod, it gets erased the next time you sync. Well worth the $$$$$$$. See all 15 customer reviews...

3D Technology Checklist This product is 3D-related. To help you get a great 3D experience, use the checklist below to ensure you have everything you need. 3D viewing requires: A DisplayFirst, you'll need a 3D-ready display--whether it's a 3D HDTV, 3D projector, or 3D computer monitor. These displays have more processing power than standard 2D models for displaying 3D images in rapid succession. A SourceYour display may be ready for 3D playback, but you'll still need a device to read 3D content. This can be a cable box with a subscription to a 3D channel, a 3D Blu-ray Disc player, or a PlayStation 3 system. 3D Content3D content--the actual entertainment, in other words--will be played back using the source mentioned above, whether it's a 3D broadcast from your cable provider, a 3D Blu-ray Disc, or a 3D video game. 3D GlassesFor now, the vast majority of 3D HDTVs require glasses for 3D viewing. Many use powered "active shutter" glasses, others polarized "passive" glasses. You'll need one pair per viewer, and they'll have to be compatible with your display, whether they're the same brand, or a pair of "universal" glasses designed to work across brands. HDMI CableTo connect your source (such as a 3D Blu-ray Disc player) to your display, you'll need a high-speed HDMI cable. Cables with this designation feature bandwidth speeds up to 10.2 Gbps (gigabits per second), for carrying the 3D signal without any loss of quality. If you want to get more information about 3D, shop our 3D products, watch videos, or interact with other customers, we invite you to visit 3D 101, our customer center about everything 3D. Internet-Ready Television Internet-ready TVs use your broadband connection to deliver dynamic content, whether it's streaming video from Netflix, new music from Pandora, or a quick glance at today's weather forecast. Although there is overlap, each manufacturer offers a unique bundle of free or paid services, including streaming video and music, social networking apps, online photo galleries, news and financial updates, weather info, sports scores, and a variety of other smartphone-like applications. Manufacturers continue to add new content to their offerings, keeping customers current through firmware updates, and making a bit of research a prudent step in your buying decision. These state-of-the-art glasses (sold separately) create a dazzling 3D effect by opening and closing lenses 120 times per second. This requires a television iwth exceptional video features, and that of course will benefit all your 2D viewing. And while the WX800 delivers 3D video, its own elegant, ultra-thin design approaches 2D. The choice of 46-inch or 54.6-inch screen sizes make Toshiba 3D TVs perfect for building a big, beautiful home theater. Even the stand looks great. In back, the WX800 features an Ethernet port, along with built-in 802.11a/b/g/n wireless networking. This lets you access Toshiba's Net TV content, for streaming video from services like Netflix, social networking with Twitter and Facebook, Internet radio from Pandora, and a whole lot more, for entertainment beyond the included three dimensions. PixelPure 5G With a 14-bit internal digital video processor, gradation levels are increased, creating smoother, clearer images. LED TV Experience a superior picture and higher Contrast Ratio with Edge LED backlight technology, producing brighter whites and deeper blacks than traditional CCFL backlight televisions. Built-in Wi-Fi This television can access your home wireless network without the need for a wired connection. Toshiba's Net TV personalized Internet content is available with just a few clicks of the remote, with Yahoo! TV Widgets. Simply visit the Widget Gallery on your TV and choose from a vast selection that includes Facebook, Flickr, Twitter, Pandora, YouTube and many more. Digital Tuner Integrated digital tuning (8VSB ATSC and QAM) eliminates the need for a separate digital converter set-top box (in most cases). Toshiba has taken steps to reduce the impact of their HDTVs, with a power-conscious design and full ENERGY STAR qualification. An attractive, ultra-thin cabinet design makes Toshiba 3D TVs perfect for building a big, beautiful home theater--even the stand looks great. Great Expandability and Convenience Build that entertainment center with four HDMI inputs and Toshiba InstaPort for fast switching between them. And because Toshiba 3D TVs are DLNA-certified, you'll also be able to work all suitably equipped components--receivers, home media servers and more--using a single remote control. Home theater without the headache. Stunning Sound Toshiba 3D TVs don't skimp on audio, either. They come with built-in stereo speakers, plus advanced audio technologies including Audyssey EQ to equalize sound for the entire room, Dolby Volume to maintain loudness as you change channels or encounter blaring commercials, plus Dolby Digital Plus, which delivers full audio potential from Blu-ray discs, HD broadcasts, along with streamed and downloaded media. AutoView To give you the best entertainment around the clock, the image on your TV should be bright enough for high-contrast viewing during the day, but not so intense that it strains your eyes at night. Making those adjustments yourself can be a hassle, so Toshiba's AutoView takes care of it for you. Green Engineering Though powerfully entertaining, LED HD TVs are built with a power-conscious design. Each is ENERGY STAR-qualified, so you can reduce your impact while upgrading your television. Gaming Mode Gaming Mode supercharges your playing by reducing game controller delay, allowing the video signal to bypass select internal TV circuitry, shortening signal-to-screen time. Outstanding By cdew002 SELECTING: I was in the market for a new TV, but I had no intention of getting a 3D TV until I saw the sale Amazon had that included the Bluray player and glasses for $1299. Too good to pass up since I was going to spend close to that on a regular LED/LCD TV anyway. There were a few sales on Samsungs and Panasonics, but I chose Toshiba. The TV being replaced was a 3.5 year old 50" HD Toshiba DLP. That was a great product, so I decided to exercise a little brand loyalty. Additionally, because Toshiba was one of the last "big" manufacturers to release their 3D TV, I figured they would probably have the best picture since they had more time to perfect their technology. That may be incorrect logic, but it worked for me. There were almost no reviews when I bought the TV, so I kept my fingers crossed.SHIPPING: I waited like a little kid for this thing to get to me - even though I got it in 5 days, it seemed like forever! The box had a huge hole in it (looked like it had been kicked) and the back of the TV had a small dent. I signed for it with the acknowledgement that it was dented so if it didn't work, I could send it back. These things are shipped via freight, and freight is known to be rough on packages. The dent didn't bother me (provided it worked), so I took it home.SETUP: Got home, took it out of the box. This thing is skinny! It is also surprisingly heavy (not overly cumbersome, but it is heavier than it looks). The base attaches like it should - pretty self explanatory. Got it hooked up and turned on. The TV walked me through the setup as it should. The picture was great - I don't have cable (I know, I know), but the OTA stations looked wonderful. It was a very clean look. The response time changing channels was very quick (it was somewhat slower on the DLP TV). The options Toshiba has to change the picture are limitless - I am still tinkering with the picture (although the way it is set up out of the box is great).3D SETUP: I bought A Christmas Carol, Open Season, and Monsters Vs. Aliens (off eBay) in 3D. Setup is identical to a regular DVD player, except I believe you need to have a 1.4 HDMI cable (not a standard HDMI) to transmit the 3D image. I wish they mentioned this up front, but luckily I did some research before the TV arrived and ordered an Amazon cable for $7. Not a big deal, but I would have been pretty irritated if I would have had to make a trip to BestBuy to buy a $50 cable. For the glasses, you just pull the clear battery saver tab (you'll see it if you don't know what I'm talking about) and you're good to go. You can tell when the glasses are on because the light allowed through the glasses changes. I believe I had to change the TV to auto-detect 3D, but a message pops up and tells you what to do once it sees a 3D disc, so that's all there is to it.STANDARD/BLURAY PICTURE: Fantastic. There's not much more to it. It is a great picture with incredible detail. I thought the old HD DLP Toshiba had a great picture, but I don't know if I'll be able to watch it again because of the improvement this TV is over that one. Bluray really did blow me away on this TV. There are countless adjustments you can make to the picture, which is nice (doubt I'll use them, but it's more of a comfort thing).3D PICTURE: Didn't know what to expect. After I ordered the 46", I began reading that you needed a bigger screen to appreciate 3D and got worried. Luckily, this wasn't true! The picture is much more "crisp" than in the theaters. When I first put on "A Christmas Carol," all I could do was smile. I had read a lot of blurbs here and there regarding the issues people were having with 3D TVs making "ghost" and "double" images. It actually did happen during one scene of "A Christmas Carol," but I'm not really sure why (it was actually just a character's nose had a ghost image during one scene), and it didn't happen at any other

REMOTES ARE SHORT LIVED By Fitz-George Rattray Yes, the station is a must have for the 05 series, but be seriously warned . . . . I have had three stations, 2 of the remotes have died so far, and both after the 30 day warranty, and ARCHOS tell me that since I did not purchase it from them it is not their problem and I am waiting to see if any Amazon merchants will source or sell the remotes only . . . . by the way, just in case you don't know, the station is all but useless without the remote. 23 of 25 people found the following review helpful. Understand What You're Getting By A TV Watcher A "DVR" without a tuner seems hardly worthwhile. You can't connect your cable to the unit, you're going to have something else to tune and convert your cable signal to composite, RGB, or S-Video. Then you're going to have to carefully position the IR emitter of the Archos DVR station so that it's pointed into the IR receiver of your tuner. In all likelihood this means you can't put the DVR station where you want it.You'll be better off without this. Get a tuner for your computer, use it as your DVR and transfer the recordings via USB. 15 of 16 people found the following review helpful. A Must Have for the 605 By TC The DVR Station works as described. The DVR function is a significant portion of the 605 capability. It was a snap to cable it, and the IR setup, to control the S-Video source, was one of the easiest yet. The programming guide was also easy to configure, and use (not sure about the fee structure after the "free" one year period).I also liked the external charger (didn't have to wait 24 hours to charge before "playing with it"). The docking station makes it easy to connect & disconnect, which is often during the setup phase.I gave it only four stars because of the lack of a Tuner. See all 67 customer reviews...

A digital entertainment device for both movie buffs and technophiles, Toshiba's RS-TX60 digital media server features DVD recording abilities alongside TiVo Series2 technology with free TiVo Basic service included with purchase. The unit's high-capacity, 160 GB hard-disk drive (HDD) stores up to 200 hours of audio/video storage (depending on the quality level you select), while DVD recording gives you the option for archiving your VHS and camcorder footage and for easy recording of your favorite TV programs. You can also record content from the hard disk drive to a DVD media (DVD-R or DVD-RW) quickly and easily. The easy-to-use TiVo interface can automatically create a DVD menu for easy navigation. DVDs can be named according to your program selections, or you may manually enter a title. This is a great DVD player, too. Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the RS-TX60 will deliver the full potential of your commercial DVDs. The recorder/player's ColorStream Pro component-video output (selectable for 480p/480i) works for both DVD and TiVo content. There are 2 composite-video-based AV inputs, 1 S-video input, and 1 RF coaxial input (for an antenna signal or a feed from an older VCR or cable box). The unit is fully upgradeable to the TiVo Plus Service (subscription required: $12.95 per month or a "product lifetime" fee of $299 that's good for as long as your RS-TX60 remains operational), which includes TiVo's Home Media Option for remote (online) scheduling, access to MP3/JPEG digital media files from your PC, and multi-room viewing with no additional TiVo receivers. What's in the Box DVD/HDD recorder/player, a remote control, remote batteries, an IR blaster cable, a user's manual, a stereo analog audio interconnect/composite-video cable, and warranty/registration information.

Aside from being able to continue using the Tivo basic service, which is completely free (except the cost of phone calls to a local number which provides program information), here are additional benefits:1. Huge Tivo hard drive seems impossible to fill up. I know one day even 200 hours will seem too small, but for now it seems infinite.2. Copying Tivo'd programs to a DVD-R or DVD-RW. As I fly a lot, I am able to bring my DVD-R's, and watch them on a plane with my portable DVD player or a laptop. I found no problems playing the DVD-Rs on other equipment. I was slightly concerned what happens when the recorded program is longer than 2 hours (limit what would fit on a single DVD-R in High quality mode), but the unit seamlessly fills up 1 DVD-R, and then continues on another with the rest of the recorded program.Creating a 2-hour DVD-R takes about 45 minutes; creating 30-minute DVD-R takes about 20 minutes. The initial on-screen estimate is always 57 minutes for the DVD-R, but the number decreases somehow faster than the real time. At the same time, the front display of the unit shows how many percent of the DVD have been recorded.3. The unit is much quieter than SD-H400.4. Occasional audio sync and pixelization annoyances have not come up yet on the new unit.I also found a few annoyances on the new unit:1. The remote is not as logical as the SD-H400's seemed to be. The two jump forward/jump back buttons have been replaced with one "jump forward than jump back" button. Live TV/Guide buttons have also been combined into one. The Stop and pause buttons are at unexpected locations, but I guess this is just a matter of getting used to it. And the worst, there is no standby button on the remote for the unit, so I either have to navigate the menus to put it in standby, or stand up and press the button on the unit itself! If I didn't do it, I would have to turn off the audio system (which I keep always on), or I would have TV sound on at all times. (By the way, the unit does turn on just by pressing the Tivo button on the remote.)2. The Tivo on-screen font is slightly smaller and toned, so it is somehow more difficult to read on a 27" TV.Overall, I am very satisfied with the product, and would recommend it. 89 of 93 people found the following review helpful. Perfect for Advanced Tivo'ing By S. Margolis The RS-TX20 works like a charm. The instruction manual and quick start guide made cabling a fairly straightforward affair. The variety of cabling options includes cable box, satellite box, both, or straight from the cable. The unit came with enough cables to make all the connections needed and to then get going. You can also output to a variety of components including a VCR. We have ours going to a theatre amp and the improvement in the sound by selecting Dolby 5.1 from the Toshiba/TiVo set-up menu is noticeable. The only caveat's:1 - If you have VONAGE or other VOIP - I had a hard time getting the onboard modem to hook to TiVo Central. This is where all of the data about what is on your local channels comes from. I had to call Vonage and explain to them what I was doing. Kudos to Vonage - they were very helpful and with only 20-30 minutes, I was able to hook up to get the initial program load. If you are doing this, use dialing prefix ",#034" (comma-pound-zero-three-four)((don't forget the comma!!)2 - The unit is enabled for wired/wireless networking once the initial program load is in. What they (Toshiba/TiVo) don't tell you is the wireless must be 802.11b. Not "a", not "g". "B"! A pair of USB ports facilitates the network connection, so you will need to troop down to your local electronics store and purchase a USB wireless dongle. [...] Make sure you get a "B"! The onscreen setup for network connections is a snap and works well. Only suggestion for

By Michael Jackson As described at the top of this page, this is a "bulk package" card, meaning it doesn't come in a pretty package. All you get is the carrying case with the Micro SD card and SD adapter inside. Who need the packaging anyway? You're just going to throw it away as soon as you get your card out ;) Rest assured, it is in fact a brand new, official card (well... at least the one I got from the seller "a-depot" was).FWIW, I chose the seller "a-depot" because, if you include shipping costs, they were the cheapest seller period. 2gb transflash for $30.39 shipped. Just wow.Use:I plugged in into my card reader and it mounted instantly. Actual usable space on the card showed up as 1.89 GB. I did a couple tests with a 30MB file and found that the transfer rates over USB2 (on my system at least) are consistently 1mb/s for both read AND write. After copying over a few MP3's, I moved the card into my Verizon Motorola Krzr. Everything showed up right away. Not much more to say. 42 of 42 people found the following review helpful. Either it works or it doesn't - this one works just fine, and the price is definitely right.I'm using mine in a Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx, and it holds the whole of City Navigator North America, plus a ton of Topo maps with plenty of space left over. 22 of 22 people found the following review helpful. I think it all depends on your wiring and distance between the units. Mine are distanced pretty far apart and I haven't seen anything travel faster than ~15Mbps. I have three of my ports taken up and you would think that the switch unit would handle traffic between the four ports pretty quickly, but transfer rates are at a constant 10Mbps when copying files from one server to another. Whereas if they were attached to my router, they would copy over at about +45Mbps. So, I don't think the switch is a true switch. I think it is just traveling to my router and then back. I inquired as to whether or not I could attach a second 4-port switch unit to the set and I was told no. However, I was told that you can have more than one kit on the same wiring. Overall, it is a little more than I would like to pay, but worth purchasing. 6 of 7 people found the following review helpful. I WILL NOT CONFORM! By Isaac Betts I had never heard of anything like this product before, nor have I seen anyone else with one. So I took a gamble on this; And guess what? I won. Big time. I had already spent $400 on a XBox 360 Elite, plus $50 for a subscription to XBox Live. I REFUSED to pay another $100 for Microsoft's wireless XBox 360 network adapter. They should have built it into they console like PS3 and Wii, but chose to nickle and dime us to death, charging us ridiculous prices for accessories. Not this time Bill Gates! I opened up my Brite-View box, plugged the either-net cable from my Verizon FIOS wireless router (located upstairs) into the receiver, plugged the receiver into the wall socket, then plugged another either-net cable from my XBox 360 (located downstairs) into the 4-way port, plugged the port into the wall socket, turned on the XBox, and I was logged into XBox Live in about half a second! Played some Modern Warfare 2 with absolutely no lag. Watched some video content too. Best decision I've ever made! And I can use the other ports for other things like Blu-ray, or another computer. TAKE THAT! MICROSOFT! 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Great product By Ricardo Orrantia Ponce I own the Brite-View PowerOver Ethernet adpapter with the 4 port switch. It is a GREAT product. I used to do streaming from my Macbook to my PS3 via WIFI and i often had to reset my router or had skipping issues. I decided to give this product a try and could not be happier, just hooked it up and it WORKED, no configuration what so ever was needed.Great for HD streaming and easy setup 5 starts from me! This high-speed, mobile data and Internet access technology is fast enough to support a wide range of advanced data services (with average data speeds between 75-135Kbps), including full picture and video messaging, high-speed color Internet access, and e-mail on the go. While this phone is optimized for use with T-Mobile's high-speed 3G network, many of its functions will also work well on the moderate-speed EDGE network. If you plan to access the Internet extensively on your phone, 3G network coverage may serve you best. Activities that work well on EDGE or 3G networks: E-mail, instant messaging, and texting Downloading ringtones, CallerTunes, wallpaper, light data files Sending photographs via e-mail or picture messaging Activities that work best on a 3G network: Viewing content-heavy websites (lots of images or videos playing) Viewing YouTube and other video files (they will play on EDGE, but require loading time) Uploading large files (photos, videos, presentations) to sharing websites Downloading large files from an e-mail or a website T-Mobile's 3G network is currently available in more than 220 cities nationwide and covers more than 160 million people.

Mims The Garminfone is an excellent GPS unit and a "good" smart phone in one. If you are looking for a high end android device, this might not be the best phone for you because it runs version 1.6 of Android. If you need both a GPS and smart phone this is worth a serious look.Pros:Corporate email works wellThere is plenty of storage space for downloading appsIf you happen to be out of cell signal range the GPS will continue to workComes with car charger and vehicle mountThe screen size is just right @ 3.5"Cons:Cannot customize the home screen other than the sidebarDoes not have 3.5mm headphone jack 27 of 29 people found the following review helpful. A good 2nd gen device in a sea of 3rd gens. By Christopher Wanko After my G1 bricked a 2nd time, I went on a small journey to review some T-Mobile phone replacements. The Garminfone and MyTouch Slide 3G are the two I've chosen, and this is what I've found about the Garminfone after two weeks.First, it's light, much lighter than a G1 by feel and likely due to the absence of a physical keyboard. Asus and Garmin have done a splendid job designing a pretty phone, and it looks terrific. The second thing I'd notice is that the Garmin-designed interface is targeting casual or non-technical users, so it didn't resonate with me. It's just a point to consider: you can download ADW Launcher and ditch the Garmin home screen and UI for the most part, and gain a pretty powerful launcher in the process.Third, Android 1.6 with 2.1 features is nice but not a sustainable solution for the phone long-term. I know why Garmin went the way they did: they were challenged to integrate their own legacy GPS software and mapping into an Android container, and had access to the 2.1 SDK and so rolled their own 1.6 version. However, it will be quite some time, if ever, that this phone received a true 2.1 base. Whether you notice it or not is largely irrelevant; understand that you won't be moving to Froyo or beyond.Fourth, the hardware is fairly fast, faster than I expected with an average CPU (600 MHz Qualcomm MSM7227, the same used in the MyTouch Slide 3G). It's not a 1Ghz Snapdragon, but I was surprised at how quickly it would return UI changes for me. The memory is 256Mb of RAM and 4Gb of internal storage, 458Mb of it dedicated to apps. If you were missing Apps2SD, this makes up for it somewhat. It also supports microSD, of course.Fifth, the device is a PND replacement, by design. The included car dock snaps on and provides a landscape orientation and charging port, with the standard bulb swivel and a stick-on base if your dash doesn't have a smooth surface for the suction cup. You might need a longer USB cable but in practice with a 2002 Neon ACR I didn't need anything longer. The Garmin maps are offline, which is a huge advantage over Google navigation as you can use this device in the wild -- all you need is a charged battery and some sky. Navigation is just fine, accurate and precise, with some nice features like local speed limits and traffic. In truth traffic didn't really work, but traffic is a hard problem for anyone to solve. As a personal navigation device I'd wholly recommend this.Overall, I liked it but missed the physical keyboard. Swipe and Graffiti work terrific on this, and the device ran all of my own apps without incident. The included Garmin widgets and its version of a home screen are not worth keeping, and should be easier to ditch in favor of a generic home screen. The widgets, when working, were nice but unremarkable. The battery life was decent, not spectacular, and there is no way to disable 3G to conserve power (another shortcoming of rolling your own OS version). It also seems as if the device is languishing in the market, so I'd wait to see if Garmin-Asus update this to 2.1 before committing myself to a contract for one.--# 35 of 39 people found the

Amazon.com Product Description One of the most persistent challenges of setting up a modern digital audio system is integrating all the various formats and components. Half your music collection may be stored on CD, while the rest is spread between vinyl, MP3, and other formats. That's where the Yamaha MCX-2000 MusicCAST digital audio server comes into play. Not only does the MusicCAST server store up to 40,000 songs on its built-in 160 GB hard drive--making it easy to access your favorite tunes at a moment's notice--but it also converts vinyl records into digital formats while playing XM satellite and Internet radio streams. In short, the MCX-2000 serves as an all-in-one music management system, letting every family member listen to what they want, when they want, at the touch of a button. Take a closer look at the MCX-2000's rear-panel connections. You can also view the unit's front panel in detail. Once the server is loaded with music, the MusicCAST system can communicate with up to 15 separate clients--five wirelessly and 10 wired--to play music throughout the house on virtually any type of speaker system. Want to play music on the bedroom or garage speakers without running speaker wire throughout the house? Integrate the server with a MusicCAST MCX-A10 wireless client and a couple of speaker pairs. The full system will give you full access to the server's massive audio catalogue from anywhere in the home. No more installing a portable boombox in the kitchen or settling for certain CDs because your bedroom system doesn't play MP3s. The MusicCAST system--which is essentially a 16-zone multi-room audio warehouse--does it all. Music storage is really the MCX-2000's specialty, however. The device includes a CD slot that easily uploads songs to the hard drive in their original quality (around 200 hours worth), or converts them to compressed MP3 files (at 160k, 256k, or 320k compression rates) for distribution to the clients. Listeners can also upload songs via external inputs, such as iPods, PCs, and even turntables. Once the songs are loaded, you can stack your CDs and LPs in the closet never to be heard from again, and spend your newfound free time creating tons of versatile playlists for special occasions, parties, or just to meet your mood. And as with traditional CD players and MP3 players, the MCX-2000 offers a host of other playback options, including old standbys random play and repeat play. The MCX-2000 stores up to 2,000 hours of music on its built-in 160 GB hard drive. The MusicCAST's radio support extends from FM frequencies to Internet streaming to XM-ready capability. To enjoy the full complement of XM satellite radio stations, listeners will need an XM antenna (sold separately) and a subscription to the service. The Internet streaming, however, is instantly available to anyone who connects the MCX-2000 to the Internet, whether through a wired or wireless connection. The server comes preconfigured with five radio URLs, and it's easy to add others to the list. As an added bonus, the server can also play back music files from a PC that offers Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) compatibility. In other words, PC users won't have to transfer all their MP3, WMA, or other files to the MCX-2000 to enjoy playback through the system. This is especially gratifying for hardcore music fans for whom a 160 GB hard drive just isn't big enough. File navigation and organization is straightforward and user-friendly thanks to the system's efficient graphical user interface and remote control, which let you quickly scan through artist, album, track, and genre menus gleaned from the CDDB music recognition database. And listeners who won't stand to let a good playlist go to waste will dig the built-in CD recorder, which transfers music at a lightning fast speed to CD for later playback on a car stereo or a friend's system. Jacks include a wireless IEEE 802.11b/g network protocol for communicating with wireless clients, an Ethernet connection for wired client or Internet hookups, analog and Toslink digital audio inputs and outputs, S-video and composite video outputs for onscreen displays, a PS/2 connection port for connecting a keyboard, and a headphone jack with its own level control. The MCX-2000 measures 17.12 by 3.75 by 16.06 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a one-year warranty. What's in the Box MCX-2000 server, remote control, power cord, user's manual.

By Nimravus Update 6-25-10: Please see below this review for a question I answered about the EyeFi's Geotagging feature. Thanks.First off, one limitation to this particular model forced me to return it:This one does not transfer RAW images or transfer directly to a computer, this was MY FAULT because I didn't read.I take RAW images so the one I need to get is the Eye-Fi X2 pro which will transfer RAW and directly to a computer via WiFi.So, I took this out of the package and popped it into my laptop's SDHC slot and it asked me if I wanted to install the software. Simple install, took seconds. I configured the wireless router WPA2 security settings with ease and it was connected. The Software lets you choose from 25 online companies to upload the pictures to, as well as the ability to simultaneously download to your computer (via your WiFi router, not directly from Camera to Computer).I chose to download pictures and video to both my backup HDD and to [...]I took it out and popped it into my Canon T2i which now has the Eye-Fi menu support, and took some pictures. The T2i immediately flashed the Eye-Fi connection icon and showed that it was transmitting. Within seconds, a popup from the tray icon on my computer indicated which file was being transfered with a thumbnail of it.The 802.11n is alot faster than the previous model Eye-Fi card's b/g. When it finished transferring, I verified that it indeed uploaded to my MobileMe account and it was on my backup HDD. Then, Carbonite immediately took over and started backing up the pictures from my backup HDD to it's online backup servers. So in a nutshell, I took the pics and without doing anything it uploaded to my MobileMe account and my External HDD. Then Carbonite backed up from my External HDD to it's online backup. Bamn, 4 copies (SDHC card, MobileMe, HDD, Carbonite) for secure, backed up pictures without really doing anything.I love this. I will be getting the Eye-Fi X2 pro 8GB just for the RAW picture transfers and Ad-Hoc mode (Camera to Computer direct transfer). If you do not take RAW or you will be using your wireless router for the transfer, then the Explore X2 is fine.UPDATE: I got 2 of the X2 Pro 8GB cards and wrote a review about it also.UPDATE: I've been using this in my Compact Point-and-Shoot through some battery cycles and I have noticed a difference in battery life. Its significant enough for me to take notice, I am getting about 2/3 the battery life by using this Eye-Fi. That is understandable I guess because it is transmitting via WiFi.Also, the card does get much hotter than a standard SDHC card so it does start to warm up the camera more than usual. This shouldn't affect anything. So be aware that this will shorten battery life, carry a spare and make sure both are fully charged before going out to take pictures. 22 of 24 people found the following review helpful. Just Amazing!! By Impetigo This is really a fantastic product and something that I had been waiting for a long time. I just got this on April 30, 2010, and have had a few days now to play around with it.The Good:------------------------------------------------1. TechnologyThis device is just fantastic and the engineers at Eye-Fi really deserve to be commended! Basically, what this device does (for those who are not quite clear on the concept), is it turns your camera (check compatibility on their website) into a wifi-enabled device that can upload photos directly (via wifi, not ad hoc -- you need Eye Fi Pro X2 for that) from your camera to your computer and/or favorite internet photo hosting site (picasa, snapfish, fotki, photobucket, etc.).This is how it works: you first connect the card to your computer using the supplied USB SD card reader and install/download the software (require internet connection obviously). Then you configure the software (including login info for your

This smartphone has an integrated Wi-Fi LAN (802.11b/g), enabling seamless connectivity with wireless networks at work, at home, and on the roam via Wi-Fi hotspots at airports and coffee shops. Because the N96 is Bluetooth enabled (with version 2.0+EDR), wireless communication headsets can be configured with the phone for total hands-free operation. It also offers Bluetooth stereo audio support (A2DP), enabling you to enjoy your music without any wires. If your laptop is Bluetooth enabled, you can connect wirelessly and enjoy dial-up networking (DUN)--surf the Internet, send email, and access files from a server. With A-GPS functionality, you'll be able find your route quickly and easily, whether walking or driving (A-GPS is a network dependant feature that requires a data plan; additional charges may apply). The Nokia Maps application offers richer maps with urban details and satellite views and the ability to search and download information about points of interests, such as restaurants, hotels, companies, travel agencies, airports, and more. It also provides optional upgrades such as City Guides, turn-by-turn pedestrian mode and voice-guided car navigation. The N96 has all the bases covered when it comes to messaging. Support is built in for sending and receiving text, video, graphics and sound via messages. It also enables you to check your email on the go (supporting POP3, IMAP4, and SMTP protocols). T9 text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit--a plus for mobile text messaging users. View web pages as they were originally intended with the integrated Nokia Web Browser, which enables you to zoom out to a full screen view of the entire page using the Mini Map feature. Find the section you want and then zoom in to the content you need. The text instantly adjusts to the size of your screen. The browser also keeps a history of your browsing so you can quickly get back to where you started. Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) technology means that this Nokia phone will discover, interact with, and control other compatible home electronic devices. Diskin I was extremely excited to open up the Nokia N96, because from its specs it looked to be one of the most powerful mobile phones on the market. It certainly lived up to its expectations in some areas, and exceeds them in others, but fell short with some very common issues. For anyone looking for a camera/media device that also does phone calls, this might have been a serious contender. The media player works well for audio, the built-in FM tuner is great, and the internet radio feed was easy to use and loaded with content. This phone does everything well, but not nearly well enough to justify its astronomical price tag.------------------Things Done Right:Browser - The browser on the phone rendered the pages I tried perfectly and it was very easy to navigate using the device. Bookmarks and other features you'd want were all there.FM Radio - This worked like a charm! It was very cool to have this in a mobile device.Light Weight - The phone weighs considerably less than my AT&T Fuze and Tilt.Massive Storage - The phone's best feature is its internal 16 GB of storage.Looks - Trust me when I say the phone looks even better in person.---------------Half-Way There:Mapping - Rather than relying on a live internet feed for maps, it had very detailed maps of the US right on the phone. This is great if you are in an area with patchy service and need directions. But, it's no Google Maps. I've been spoiled by having Google Maps on my Windows Mobile phones for some time now, and while the mapping application on this phone is good, it's not Google Maps. Plus, many of the advanced features of this application require an extra fee such as turn-by-turn directions and traffic reports.WiFi - Connecting the phone to my home wireless network with WPA/PSK was a breeze. HOWEVER, many of the features on the phone such as the mapping tool, internet radio, and others required use of data plan, even if you were connected via WiFi. And despite trying, I could never get it to connect to my computer for WiFi Sharing.Help - The phone has online help for nearly every menu, most of which was well-written and useful. Some of the more rare settings had no help, however.Camera - While this phone won't replace your $200 digital camera, it's better than what I've seen on most mobile phones. I especially liked the on-screen menus for making adjustments on the fly. The flash on the back of the camera is great for close-up subjects.Voice Command - There is a utility which reads you your messages to you, which was pretty neat. And, you can dial your contacts through voice command, plus launch applications. Unfortunately, that's all. Voice command apps on other devices allow you to dial numbers as they are spoken, play specific media, or dictate text messages.-----------------More Work Needed:No Keyboard - This device lacks both a keyboard and touch screen, limiting all input to the numeric pad and a plethora of other buttons. If you are a heavy text/emailer, this is going to be a deal-breaker for you.IM Difficult - The phone includes an IM application, but it was intimidating to configure with settings that I had no clue about. Other phones include apps which are preconfigured for Yahoo, AIM, and MSN, but that was not the case here. The manual and help were useless here.Micro USB - Every portable device I own uses Mini USB for sync and charging, but the Nokia N96 introduces the even smaller Micro USB. That means that I need to carry yet another cable. No USB Charge - To make it worse, you cannot charge via USB. While the phone comes with an AC charger and a car charger, its proprietary and means yet ANOTHER cable to carry.WMV Playback - Despite being touted as a media player, the phone would not play any of the WMV files I copied to it. These were non-DRM files that worked fine on other phones.AGPS - The manual claims that the
