Cirago CMC 1000 - Stay AWAY By Felix Rokhvarger If you looking for solution to view your digital photos, video, music and be able to have DVR capability with no monthly fees - Cirago could be an affordable device that could do this for you if it would not be a Junk. The Bad:1. Customer supports none existent.2. Week remote control, operating distance is too short. Universal control improves the distance, but a problem is within Cirago unit itself.3. Slow operating system and questionable firmware makes this unit worst on the market.4. In the process of files and folders selection jumps through several lines, in most cases does not accepts the remote commands from a first attempt or responds with long delay.5. On power on, system intermittently does not find Network drive, ether on wired or wireless Network, and restart is required several times to make the system find the drive.6. On power on, system intermittently does not produce the sound output and restart is required several times to make the system work.7. Internal Hard Drive recording capability only for FAT32 system only.8. LAN hardware is limited to 10/100.The good:1. Plays all video formats I tried so far.2. Plays all audio formats I tried so far.3. Records live TV and any Audio-Video source connected to the unit.4. Pauses live TV up to 30 Minutes.5. Picture quality is good.My recommendation is to stay away from this product, instead purchase WD TV Live as a media player.Unfortunately I was not able to find decent combination of DVR and Media Player as of today. 6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. STAY AWAY! By D. L. Prescott I got it very quickly, it's nothin bad on amazon's end but on the cirago end, its big and bulky, the face was loose, felt like it was going to fall off,So i power this thing up for the first time, im thinking coo! Then I hook it up to my computer and try to transfer files and it says drive not recognized on WinXP Pro, Then it shut down on me, that was the end of the story, its goin back now. I would stay away from this. 6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Not sure if it's worth it By adman Isn't as easy to use as described as a DVR or to record shows on the tv. Still haven't figured out how to label shows with the name of the tv show so have to go thru them to find the right one. Some of the controls are a little confusing to figure out because the directions aren't the greatest. Was going to return this but it took 2 weeks to get here and then after trying to figure it out it had been several days over the 30 days from date of order. We'll see how it does as an actual external harddrive but we ordered it for the DVR capabilities and it isn't worth the price to me. Slowly figuring it out so maybe my mind will change when we get it all figured out. See all 6 customer reviews...

Pioneer BDP-330 1080p Streaming Blu-ray Disc Player (Black)

Without question, the greatest success of all Pioneer's players is the ability to recreate film as the director intended. And as movies are the combined work of many people, from cinematographers and set designers to Foley and makeup artists, every detail is taken into consideration in order to help you get closer to the ultimate cinematic experience. In the past, film displayed on television required stretching 24 frames-per-second to match the 30 frames-per-second of television. More often than not, this would result in annoying motion judder and unnatural on-screen images. With True 24fps at up to 1080p resolution, you see only what the director intended as all film sources are displayed at their actual speed. The BDP-330 provides up to 1920 x 1080p resolution for unrivaled picture quality. And with True 24fps, you’ll see your movies as the director intended. The BDP-330 offers simultaneous HDMI & Component Video Output: Enjoy High Definition Video from both the HDMI and Component Video connections. (Component Video limited to 1080i Resolution.)The BDP-330 also allows online Streaming Content: Enjoy online content from YouTube and read RSS Feeds when connected to the internet. Additional services available soon. This amazing Pioneer product allows for iPhone/iPod Touch Remote Control: Using our free iControlAV application (available for download from the Apple App StoreSM) users can control most major functions of the BDP-330 with their iPhone/iPod Touch.

Wireless Ready: An optional 802.11n wireless adapter (AS-WL100) is available allowing access to online wireless content and firmware upgrades without the need to run additional cables to your Blu-ray Disc player Dual USB Inputs: A front and Rear USB input are provided to accommodate optional BD-Live Storage, our optional AS-WL100 Wireless internet adapter, or JPG/MP3 media playback. Multi-Format Compatibility: You can play High Definition DVD discs recorded by digital video cameras in AVCHD format. You can also play BD-R/RE, DVD-R/RW, etc. recorded using Blu-ray Disc recorders or DVD recorders as well as CD/CD-R. HDMI Precision Quartz Lock System (PQLS) Jitterless Transmission (Bitstream): By HDMI connection with a compatible Pioneer A/V receiver, A/V sources such as Blu-ray Discs and DVDs, as well as CD music are precisely reproduced with minimum jitter.

The BDP-330 has the capability to show customers every detail of a film, allowing for the best possible viewing experience. Televisions in the past have displayed images at 30 frames-per-second, while films were created at 24 frames-per-second, causing a distorted playback. This product addresses that issue, running at True 24 frames per second at up to 1080p resolution. Though its picture quality is unrivaled in the industry, the BDP-330’s features are what truly separate it from products of comparable prices. The player accepts online streaming content, allowing YouTube, Netflix, and RSS feeds to be viewed via the internet. In addition, this product allows for iPhone/iPod touch remote control, using a free application that is available for download from the Apple® App Store. The BDP-330 serves as another example why Pioneer is at the forefront of Blu-ray technology and an industry leader in picture quality. Highest Quality Video Playback Blu-ray The Pioneer BDP-330 offers customers the best possible video playback quality, and with a full 1920 x 1080p resolution, viewing is unrivaled in the industry. In addition, the True 24 frames-per-second film display eliminates the jittering and distortion caused by many televisions and media players. This product’s deep color capability gives a level of color accuracy that has been previously unattainable in media display technology, expanding display colors into the billions and taking precision beyond what the human eye can see. Pioneer has emerged at the top of the industry, giving customers a viewing experience unlike anything seen before. Inputs and Outputs Upscaling DVDs This Blu-ray player is also compatible with DVDs and CDs. Because of its high quality performance, the DVD viewing experience is enhanced on this player, allowing customers to view their non-Blue-ray video collection at near HD quality. CDs are also playable on this machine, precisely presented with minimal jitter. Enhanced Audio Technology The sound quality from this Blu-ray player is incredible, delivering a crisp effect that immerses the viewer into the film. The audio decoding in the BDP-330 is unmatched, delivering sound that can be interpreted by any speaker system and is compatible with all advanced formats such as Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTSHD High Resolution, and DTS-HD Master Audio. Advanced Connectivity Streaming from Content Sites Connecting your Blu-ray player to the internet has never been so easy. With an Ethernet cable port and the optional wireless dongle, access to video from sites like YouTube expands viewing opportunities for customers. The BDP330 now offers Netflix compatibility, allowing you to view movies from the internet on your Blu-ray player. Wireless Ready The BDP-330 can connect easily to your home wireless network with the purchase of the AS-WL 100 Wireless Adapter (sold separately). This adapter is 802.11/n compatible and can support WPA, WPA2, AES, and TKIP encryption. It features an on-screen setup, allowing for quick configuration on any network. Unfortunately, a thinly disguised Sharp BD-HP70U By WDH UPDATE: Netflix was added via firmware on roughly 8/14The news of Pioneer's departure from the plasma market shook the AV community a little over two years ago. Questions abound as to what the future would hold for Pioneer in a post Kuro world. Fans of their Blu-ray players - begun in earnest with the 51FD/05FD - wondered if a joint venture with Sharp would lead to a dilution of the high quality A/V performance at a very reasonable price point. The release of the budget-priced Pioneer BDP-120 was to some a harbinger of this venture manifesting itself in what appeared to an amateur eye as a largely re-badged Sharp player veiled beneath a Pioneer chassis. Its performance was nowhere near its 320 and 23FD brethren and its price point reflected such.Emerging news of the 320's replacement came from European sources boasting Youtube streaming, which hinted the promise that US customers might get Netflix streaming or even some of the other instantly streamed video sources. The BDP-330 was largely unannounced until I found one in a Best Buy half-an-hour's drive from my house.Upon lifting the all-white box, I noticed immediately that it was light, which caused me to prolong any disappointment until I got an opportunity to put it through its paces. I was a bit surprised the box made no mention of Youtube or any streaming services. Upon unboxing the player, I was a bit surprised at how small and shallow its profile really was. It makes the 320 look downright large. The biggest immediate disappointment was the rear output panel, which was identical to the European press photos completely devoid of multichannel analogue outputs. The Burr-Brown DAC-equipped MCH analogue outputs were one of the 320's strongest selling points. The player was made in April of 2010 in China; please note this is a departure from the Malaysian-built 320 and later 51s. The 120 was also made in Sharp and has a number of rear panel similarities including the power cord input's design. The player also shares the exact same model number remote as the 120 - VXX3351, which appears nearly identical to the 320, but including some strangely labeled buttons (page +/- and keylock) missing the video adjust button (this all but eliminated the hope that this might be a "real" Pioneer for me).Upon firing up the player, I was greeted by the familiar Pioneer menu, but a very different setup menu that was very similar to the 120 best I can remember. Here's where the disappointment turns real: there is no Netflix; only Youtube and RSS. Gone is the slicky black background menu and appeared is the simple text and icon menu I remember from Sharp players. No choice for colorspace or high-speed HDMI...Just resolution. For folks who have been accustomed (spoiled) by the amount of tweaking possible with the 320/23/51/05, this is a huge disappointment. All video adjustments options of the 320/23 are GONE. No Preset modes like Pioneer PDP or Projector. Once again, just resolution. This player is certainly not of the linneage of the current 320 or 51 with their extensive picture adjustment menus and presets. From this standpoint, the 330 is very disappointing. In respects of load times, the quick start feature added very little discernable benefit to load times, that were very pokey. In fact, the current 320 was faster in actual load times in all the discs I tested than the 330. Other than the 2 second power off eject time, the Pioneer BDP-330's load times were embarrasingly so for a 2010 player whose peer group can load the same discs in a third of the time.Player Eject Dark Knight Casino Royale POC I - Coin POC 1 -Disney Castle Total SpeedPioneer BDP-320 18 36 36 39 62 191 5.5Pioneer BDP-23FD 18 36 36 39 62 191 5.5Pioneer BDP-51FD 33 45 44 39 73 234 4.5Pioneer BDP-330* 2 39 34 47 63 185 5.5* with quickstart engagedIn testing deinterlacing capabilities with

I already have an older model 240 4port switch that I bought 7 months ago. When I connected one of the 210's upstairs, I started having trouble with the 4port which is driving my entertainment system. Finally it gave up. I went to the Brite-view site which was no help (no phone, no real people)and standard troubleshooting replies I already tried with each e-mail sent. I got smart and found a service number on the new box and that company sent me another 4port for just the shipping on exchange and return. By Alan Don't be fooled by the "Mac" and "Pod" in the name, nor the iPod white case, and iPod-like wheel. This is a product made by a distributor of Apple computers and not Apple themselves. Had Apple made it, it would undoubtedly have been a much more pollished product, and a lot less fragile in it's interface. As it is the HomePod is a workmanlike gadget for reading your MP3s across a network and playing them remotely. Setup is easy-ish. With only a single previous experience of setting up a wireless computer, the wireless setup on the HomePod took half an hour or so and a careful reading of the instructions. Server software is required on the PC (or an Apple), and this could be better explained. For instance loading an iTunes library file and the MyMusic folder from the PC, causes the HomePod's library listing to become a little garbled, and the HomePod to crash sporadically. This could definitely be handled better. There are also Linux servers available for the HomePod available on the internet. The HomePod itself comes with an old version of the firmware and software, and upgrading the software is well worth the effort, for those with some technical savy.Using the HomePod is easy and satisfying: the music files are listed by artist, author, trackname, genre and playlist, and the software interfaces well with iTunes. Reportedly it also works with Real Player and the MS Media Player, although I've never tried these. There is also an FM radio tuner built in - but the reception is so bad that this is completely worthless. There is also an internet radio facility which appears pretty neat, but I have used it only briefly. The homepod includes its own very low quality speakers but also has 3.5mm ear plug, and phono plugs to attach external speakers. The software does have numerous areas where it falls short of reasonable expectations, for instance the wheel scrolls either very slowly, or too fast, with no happy medium; the music cannot be played while the menus are being navigated; many of the HomePod settings can only be changed from the PC; and the software does crash occassionally. However, the software is open source, and can be downloaded from gloolabs.com for free, and those with some technical experise can customize to their hearts content.Bottom line is the HomePod finally lets me play my mp3s from my PC harddisk anywhere around the house, something I've wanted to do for some time. It is not perfect, but it is a relatively cheap solution and after working through the kinks does a fine job. 9 of 10 people found the following review helpful. HomePod exceeded my expectations By Mr. M. Connolly I am extremely happy with my purchase of the Macsense Homepod. At this price I wasn't expecting much - but I was wrong.I have a wireless lan in my home, and was attracted to the Homepod for the following reasons1) I was looking for something could easily and occasionally switch between Kitchen and Living room. I didn't need to bring it skiing!2) I listen to radio quite a bit, and the FM tuner was a definite plus3) I liked the idea of an open platform with an active developer community finding ways to improve the product. Here's whats good about it1) It works beautifully and simply once it's set up2) It is a solid, well thought out design.3) I love being able to browse & shuffle-play my music in the kitchen4) The product is being improved all the time via firmware updates5) It's very compatible6) The Internet Radio feature is a lot of fun, and works without a "server" PC.Here's what's weak1) Wireless setup was quite easy, but I did have some trouble getting the supplied server software working (I eventually downloaded MusicMatch). My problems were probably down to the fact that I'm still using Windows 982) The FM Tuner isn't great - OK for strong signals only3) The built-in speakers are on a par with typical

I have recorded about 150 MG in the NTFS HDD.It shows no memory used in the brows mode or in the USB connection to the computer. It also crashes as I try to record more.I have tried to delete the videos and it crashes. Therefore, it is useless for me now.I tried to contact the customer support and they kept telling me it is a hardware issue. Even though it is a memory corruption issue ( Software issue). They did notsend RMA and the experience I had is very bad. Therefore, I can not use this product anymore and no solution to it.The only option is to reformat the HDD. But, it will not solve the issue. 4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Good product By R. Baldin HelloThe product is good, the finishing is very beautiful and the remote control has all device's functionality.I had an issue with the product, I bought from Amazon and it didn't work as I expected. I couldn't do anything as advertised in the product description. I contacted the Cirago support and they couldn't solve my problem. They ask me to do RMA, but they said I had to pay both shipping (to send the product and to receive it back), the total was almost a half of what I paid for the product. NO WAY! I knew it was not a hardware problem, so I had to open it (avoiding the warranty), debugged the problem and fix it by myself. My complain is about the Cirago's support, they should care more about the customer, try to understand their problems and give them simple solutions.Other thing I didn't like is related with the firmware, it is not updated so often, they have been released only two firmware versions until now. They should add and release new firmwares with new functionalities frequently.Besides all this, after I fixed the product it started working as I expected.500GB of storage, I can store all my medias inside it.It has HD spin down functionality to save energy. The NAS functionality is good, but we cannot rename the shared folders. As it has a Linux OS inside, we can add more programs on it as torrent download manager, apache+php server (I did it because my product warranty was void, may be if you do that you will void the warranty). You can also access it over the network using the Telnet protocol.**I'm happy now with the product working fine.** 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Audio sync issues By Phades I bought this product from Fry's electronics as an impulse buy mainly for my girlfriend to use to watch shows she misses on TV. I should have done more research on the unit. If I try to use the feature to pause or rewind live feed signal (tv or whatever else would be plugged in), the audio will get out of sync with the picture of the unit. The same is true with any standard recording function used by the device. The data stored on the unit will play back without sync issues though, as i have tested by using a remote connection through my home network on a desktop PC. The only way to restore the audio and video sync with the unit is to shutdown and restart the unit. This is rather frustrating as it makes one feature of the device completely unusable right out of the box.Another nuisance with the unit is that it only has one signal in option and it is not a HDMI or similar quality input. This means any standard feed going into the unit will not be HD, despite the unit attempting to upsample the data to an HD signal going out. This means that there is no true HDMI feature about this product, unless you were able to import a HD signal via a home network from a remote device. At which point i would question why you would use this unit in the first place if you had that capability without it and simply connect your network enabled, or USB enabled, TV to a external storage device and import data that way. Also, this device has no capability out of the box to

Essential Component for Your Stereo By Electronic Gadgetphile I bought a new house and first became aware of the SE-80 when the Home Theater installer recommended it. I was initally skeptical and not too willing to pay close to $1,000 for what I considered an iPod on steroids. Ultimately, I relented and went with the installer's advice and included it in the system. I am really glad that I did because the SE-80 does everything I hoped for and more. In my installation the unit is hooked up to the home network, Sony XBR LCD and stereo system. I have numerous albums loaded on the 80 GB hard drive and was able to do it wirelessly from the iTunes application on my laptop. You just network into the SE-80, open the folder for adding music and drag and drop the mp3 albums out of iTunes into the folder. You can then call up the albums on the TV and select the ones you want and you're good to go. Another feature I really like is the Internet Radio which brings in numerous stations from across the net including several choices of NPR which is difficult to receive OTA where I live. All in all I really like the unit, the documentation is great, it is simple to use - only wish it was a bit less expensive. Having said all of that, I would buy it again. 7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Not what I expected By Herbert H. Newton Liked the features of the unit so tried it out. Loaded 220 Cd's and the red light goes a flashing. Reboot etc to no avail. Returned to Escient. My UPS ticket said it arrived on a Monday. The repaired unit was on my doorstep Wednesday PM !! Escient said they replaced the HD and upgraded my power supply.( apparently the one whose fan runs every half hour even when it was off,,annoying feature)Saved all my previous loaded music tho. Good news so far...Then started to load my remaining 100 or so CD's. Program locks up.Cant get out of the one window,,, would continue to load music but loading progress would indicate 32 minutes to load a 48 minute CD !! That was it for me.Returned for a refund. 7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. nice product, expensive to repair !! By Robert Mcneil I bought this a little over a year ago, the mother board just died -- out of the blue, no warning. The escient customer service is very very good (they dont out source to india, ireland etc). It cost me almost $300 to have it repaired !!. So, like i said, its an excellent product, but for almost $1000 I think they might be able to cut someone a break. See all 4 customer reviews...

Appears in the begin as perfect but lost data. I evaluate this media using PI/PO tests and this item can achieve PI > 10000 after some months. This is the worst media in world. Ritek G03 was one of the best media in the world but when they introduced G04 and this G05 media the problems beginned. I buyed more than 2000 medias, with logo and without logo (printable). When I sensed that I am losting media I tested ALL medias and passed them to Sony medias (initially I thinked that was my recorder and after the armazenation method until I discovered that it was the media when I tested with DVDInfo. All G04 and G05 are crap and I tested all my media. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. 75% Failure Rate By Mary R. Brown When I first started using Ritek Ridata (this particular product by Ridata), it was wonderful, but those were the 4x's. The second 500 I bought were 8x...no problem; 3rd box of 500 8x, I had a 10% failure rate. Thought it was a fluke, but the last box, purchased 1 week ago, had a 75% failure rate. Out of the 4 cakeboxes I opened, only one box was OK and I'm concerned about how it will fare over time. The discs would not finalize or half way through recording, stop and I would see an error message. Avoid at all costs. I tried calling Ritek and twice left messages, but they don't seem to care about their defective product. If anyone has any recommendations about a better medium, feel free to email me. I have try to read/write them with TEAC, NEC, SONY, LiteON internal DVD-RW as well as TOSHIBA DVD-RW deck and a SONY DVD player. Same lousy results. Some of them played once...barely! The vast majority were giving a defective disc or no disc message. Stay away from Ritek/Arita and whatever other off-name they use. I now use Taiyo Yuden and I have never had one single problem with their media. They cost a little more but, it's worth a thousand times over! See all 5 customer reviews...

These are a "Wired Accessory" to the Linksys Wireless Home Audio Speaker Kit. Looking through the wireless speakers on Amazon I decided on these because it seems like a good system. No where in the product description does it actually tell you that they're just normal bookcase speakers. They just go with the wireless system. They may be good bookcase speakers, but for the way they're described on Amazon, it's really misleading. If you're looking for stand alone wireless speakers, do not buy this product. Good, but I must ding it on a couple of important items By Peter Marreck Disclaimer: I am a huge (but no longer kool-aid-drinking) Apple fan. It's good enough, and the rest of the reviews here attest to that, but now having my own, I have to touch on a couple of things that nobody has mentioned yet. 1) There is no way to shut it off. It sucks 18-22 watts down at all times. 22 watts when playing a movie, 18 watts in "hibernate" mode (which is obviously not the laptop-style hibernate mode one would think... I think it merely turns off the video output). You literally have to unplug it to get it to stop. There is no "shutdown" option or power switch. This I find a little ridiculous. Especially because they bothered to put in a neat startup movie- Did they expect you to watch it only once? 2) It runs very hot (no fan), even when it is "hibernated", and thus cannot be covered by anything or you will affect heat dissipation. 3) It is laggy sometimes. The worst offense an interface can have is to be laggy. If it's busy syncing, fine... just prioritize the user interface, please. (Edit: Even after syncing, it gets laggy sometimes.) A few times I'd hit a few buttons, wait 20 seconds, and then the audio feedback kicks in and does what I had commanded a half minute ago. This is pretty unforgivable. (Perhaps it's because it only has a half gig of RAM.) 4) No 1080p. Just to let you know. 1080i, yes. 1080p, no. 5) If you intend to hook this up to any sort of computer display via a HDMI>DVI cable, be aware that you will be unable to watch rented movies because your computer display will not support HDCP and you will get an error. Why it is still quite feasible to rent the very same movie on a computer via the iTunes Store and watch it on a non-HDCP computer display is left as an exercise to the armchair IP lawyers out there. If you can get past those things, it's a nice little device. 161 of 168 people found the following review helpful. It's Two Devices In One By Mike from Michigan Apple really needs to advertise and explain this thing better. It's an awesome device that does many things, but it's easier to understand it if you think of it really having only two distinct functions: 1) It's for renting HD movies. Give that new HD TV something to make it shine. Sure Blu-ray has won the format war, but what format war is next? Skip the wars and just stream the video. No clutter of DVDs and players to buy. Yes the selection is small now (it just started a month ago) but it will soon build up to include newer movies as they are released. Beware of old movies being released as HD. Renting "Blazing Saddles" in HD is not going to impress you. So, the only REAL new HD movies are the ones in theaters now and will soon be released for rental. We actually kept our Netflix account for renting the bulk of the older movies and TV shows we still like. Renting an HD movie for $5 is a cheap night of entertainment. I have a 6.0 Mbps internet connection and the HD movies are ready to play in about 1-2 minutes. You watch the movie as the rest of it downloads. I never had it stutter during playback. 2) It's an iPod for your TV. If you use iTunes and have photos, music, and home movies, this makes it easy to view them on your TV. I made my last vacation video in HD by using Final Cut Express and exporting it in the Apple TV format. Just drop that movie into iTunes and it will sync with the Apple TV. Viewing the still shots in HD is really amazing. Being like an iPod, Apple TV only shows content that you already have in iTunes. Don't think of it as some kind of backup drive for your music or movies. Sure it does some other stuff like watching You Tube, but if the top two features are what you need, then this is for you. The simple "spouse friendly" remote is great too. My wife can now easily play our music collection without my computer being on. ps: I bought the "take one"

GREAT blu-ray player By Go Terps I've only had this player for about a week or so, but it has exceeded my expectations. I was a little skeptical to buy it from the SonyStyle website before I could read any user reviews or see the rating on Cnet, let alone find it anywhere else for sale. However, it was worth the risk. Here are a few things that stand out: 1) blu-ray content looks amazing 2) looks good, is easy to use (remote and exterior controls) 3) amazing built-in capabilities: built in Wifi is smooth, Netflix, Pandora, and the amazing Berlin Phil Digital Music Hall 4) Set-up of wifi is very easy...you are guided right through After one week, I have zero complaints and give it the highest recommendation. ps--I don't even use the 3D capability and don't care, so I can't comment on that 77 of 87 people found the following review helpful. Great All Around Player, but .... By Jeremy A Edson I have been nothing but impressed with the quality of the BDP-S770. It is a fantastic Blu-ray, Netflix, Amazon, and Qriocity media playing device. It has just about every feature that you could possibly want, with one exception. One of the main reasons I bought this particular player was for its DLNA capabilities. I have a DLNA media server that has around 400 h.264 movies and thousands of AAC songs and I was hoping that the BDP-S770 would be able to play them through DLNA streaming. This is not the case. At first I was just confused, the device showed all my pictures from the media server, but would not show or play any music or movies. After digging though the manual for a little bit I found a few very curious footnotes. The device only supports AAC and H.264 video through a direct connection! It cannot stream these formats from my media server, which is very disappointing. If you want a top of the line Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, Blu-ray player .... then this is the device for you. Just dont expect it to live up to the hype when it comes to your DLNA media servers. Hopefully they will address this via a firmware update, which if they do, this would turn into a 5 star review. 48 of 53 people found the following review helpful. BDP-S770 Blu RAy Player Streaming Issues By D. Mcdermott Just got the newest Sony 3D BluRay player, BDP-S770. Really bought it so I could stream internet content to my HDTV. This new player has very quick startup and video quality of my Bluray disks when played on the S770 are much better than my S350. Internet hookup went well, but have one issue. I can not get Dolby 5.1 sound to stream when streaming HD movies that have Dolby 5.1. The test HD movie clip from Amazon video on demand has great video but the sound is PCM. I assumed that the player would stream Dolby 5.1 but it does not according to Sony. I get great Dolby 5.1 when playing disks but not when streaming via internet (ony get PCM sound), and I have a very fast Verizon FIOS 35 Mbps connection and I used Ethernet cable from my router to the Blu Ray S770. My S770 is connected to my surround sound amp via a digital cable (I also tried an optic cable with no luck). I called Sony and they said the S770 was not designed to stream Dolby 5.1 when streaming HD movies. Seems like a dumb design. I am considering returning the player since I bought it to replace my present practise of renting disks at Blockbuster. Without Dolby 5.1 sound, I am missing the surround sound experience unless I use disks. See all 47 customer reviews...

Lloyd I preordered my Vulkano direct from Monsoon, after a few delays I received it August 23rd. The first day I hooked it up to my TV via Composite connections and couldnt get a picture. I called tech support and they said that Composite is not enabled right now and would be in a later firmware release. I then used a networked PC to set it up given that the TV setup wouldnt work. Within a few hour's of trying it out I now have this laundry list of issue's. 1/ Composite Video out is not enabled and this is the only input available on my TV. 2/ Overscan lines visible on Desktop player. 3/ Cannot stream while recording to the Vulkano's memory. 4/ Audio/Video not in sync on recording's. 5/ Cannot stream to more than one device on local network at same time unlike hava's 6/ EPG sometimes decides to stop recognizing my US Zip code. The first time I called tech support I was told the new firmware would fix the Composite out issue, a few days later still no firmware update so I called back and asked for an RMA (their policy is that you can return it for ANY reason within 30 days which they kept touting when people would say its unproven.. "try it, and if you dont like it send it back" (paraphrased). Well I was told I couldnt have an RMA because that had to go to another department (this is after arguing with the tech support that I didnt want it even if there was a firmware fix). I have still not heard from the RMA dept and I get stalled everytime I call and told the RMA people are working on it..... 7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Upgrade from the Monsoon Titanium? Recommend Yes By MK95600 This review is for those who are thinking of upgrading from Monsoon's older Titanium WiFi product. I've been using the Monsoon Titanium WiFi for DVR and placeshifting purposes for more than a year now and it was a pretty good product. Overall the Vulkano line is a good upgrade from the Titanium WiFi with the following notes: ** Why you should upgrade: 1. The Vulkano now has an HDMI built-in so you can use it to play back recordings to your 1080p HDTV - I was impressed with the playback quality, even though the recordings were done over a composite feed. 2. The Vulkano local streaming works very well - the picture quality appears to be much better when viewing on the PC application. I have not tested this on an iPhone or other mobile app - but assume it will be pretty good on the smaller screen. 3. The Vulkano setup is pretty much the same process as the Titanium - in fact aside from color and font changes the screens and process will look very familiar. The one problem I ran into was setting Port Forwarding to enable place shifting and remote viewing of recorded video. The user guide was helpful in pointing to a website to find the TCP and UDP port numbers and clues to how to manually add these to your WiFi router to make it all work. The Vulkano setup process only tells you it encountered a problem and wasn't much help. See additional notes below on this issue. 4. As other reviewers have indicated - the Vulkano like the Titanium does not charge anything extra to support remote viewing. No annual service fees. 5. Over time, my Titanium's video quality degraded as the device warms up. For the first 5-10 mins the remote video and recordings look like the first day I bought it. Then it gets what appears to be snow or horizontal interference dashes. So far the Vulkano is working great - will find out how long this lasts. 6. Video capture is the same as the Titanium - via composite or component inputs and output. ** Things you should know before buying/upgrading 1. The Titanium allows you to plug any USB memory stick or external disk drive into the device's USB port and it is ready for use for recording - no formatting or anything. I used to do recordings on a 2.5" Solid State Disk (SSD) drive

By tthomas1229 I have read about these boxes getting a bad rap but if you do your homework to see what these boxes can do you will see they are really quite useful. About the biggest gripe I would have from mine is that there is no built in Netflix. However I use the Playon server software and it works quite well with this unit. I installed a 1TB SATA so I can just load all of my DVD and Bluray ISO's (of which I own of course) to either a NAS or the internal hard drive through network or a usb hard drive and they play quite well. DVD's will play with menus and everything. Bluray ISO's also have Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master soundtrack support. I purchased mine with a USB wireless N adapter that also works well. All in all this is quite a nice box. A little pricey maybe but it will perform quite well if you know exactly what it can do and how to set it up correctly. For a basic box buy a Roku or Apple TV. If you want a box that will double as a NAS device, a torrent downloader and also play any media file out there, than this is your box. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Blew all the expectations I had away By Shimotsu Wow. What a product. This great piece of technology completely blew me away. I have a 42" Samsung LED-LCD TV with 5.1 surround sound. I hooked up "the box", as my family calls it now, to the TV via the included HDMI cable and to the router with a regular cat-5e cable. I have a regular desktop: decent graphics card, good RAM, good CPU, 12 TBs of HDD space. With all that HDD space I have an unbelievable amount of movies, music, and TV shows that I have burned and bought through out the ages. I easily set up the box with its set up menu and logged into my computer through the network menu. Even with some of my HDDs having over 1000 folders/items being listed in the main directory I can scroll through it no problem in under a minute. It's listed in the same order that your regular OS displays and doesn't give much more functionality than that in terms of display and scrolling. It really can play almost any file format I have ever thrown at it. I have had some problems displaying 1:1 blu-ray movie rips, 50 GB folders for example, but even my desktop can have problems doing that sometimes. I love the optical out, as it sounds fantastic with my 5.1 speaker setup. I recommend getting this as a gift to anyone who has an HDTV and good speaker setup! 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Excellent Media Player that can handle All Formats By I. Vu In searching for a server, I wanted something easy on the electricity in order to keep it on all day. If this does indeed use only 27 watts when at max operating, it's perfect. I use it for file storage, having WinAmp running at all times to be able to remotely (via Ipod Touch) turn on to stream to an Airport Express with Airfoil (iTunes gave me problems, read below), run uTorrent all the time, and stream to a WD TV Live. It's doing all these things for me perfectly. The only thing I don't run on it that I had planned on is PlayOn to stream Hulu to the WD TV Live. The CPU is lacking for this, so I do run PlayOn from my laptop when needed. In installing iTunes to WHS via instructions found on the net, I got it to install, but had the "stuttering/pausing" problem with iTunes. I have this happen once in a long while on my laptop, but with the Server, it was pausing every 3 seconds or so, continuously. I found if I had QuickTime player running, this got rid of the stutter for some reason, but QuickTime then consumed 50-60% CPU constantly. I didn't want to subject the CPU to this, so I switched to WinAmp and Airfoil, and the combination is working fine for my purposes. I'm still able to remotely control WinAmp with my Ipod Touch with a iAmpRemote, although with less capabilities that the Apple Remote and iTunes gives you (sort by artist, song, etc). My server sits in my family room, so I also installed a USB sound card with XP drivers to the server, and can route sound directly from the server to my stereo via the USB Sound card. So far, I've been very pleased with it. The Atom Processor is capable for what I use it for (and more so if you don't intend to run things like Winamp/iTunes, etc on it). Anything that takes a CPU power, like PlayOn to process video, will run slowly and not so well on it. So consider the trade offs of the small lower power consuming CPU, versus CPU power needed. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Fast WMS for the money, also quiet and reliable Asus By ® I was in a market for an NAS and after a few week of reading reviews from small network builder I decided that the Asus TS Mini was the cheapest and fastest option I could afford. I was ready to pull a trigger on a Buffalo Technology LinkStation Duo, or Iomega StorCenter ix2-200, Seagate BlackArmor NAS 220. Unlike those models, Asus on average scored 2x the speed on small network builder read/write charts over those. Performances/Design: You can see the charts, but from my experience when I attached an usb hard drive to copy files to the the NAS, it is very fast. When I copied large chuck of files over the wifi network to NAs and got around 3.0mbps, or bit slower. I streamed 720 video clip to other PC and there is no hiccup or dropping. Did the same thing to the PS3, no freeze or skipping. The only time it freezes is after I copy 40gb of file and then streamed to the PS3. To fix this, just turn off the Asus and restart it and all will be back. The NAS is very quiet; the only sound is when the HHD is copying and you can hear that, I find it better or quieter to lay the NAS on its side, when it spins. All my computers and laptop, with window 7 and vista can see the all the files that I allow. The netbook and PS3 can see only DLNA stuff. I didn't see any jumbo frame option, but it is still fast enough for me as a home user. There are four light on the front panel, see the guide for what they mean, usually four solid blue is good. Byman I've had the Connect for about a week now, and have now acquired a library of about 600 songs, about half of which I had never heard of before. I'm totally blown away by its paradigm-shifting technology. With a WI-FI connection the Sansa Connect plays Internet radio, and if you like a song that is playing, you can download that track or album, as well as make a playlist from other songs that are similar in style. This is my favorite feature--it has introduced me to music that I would never have heard of otherwise, in genres ranging from Ambient House to Uber Indie. Before I go to sleep, I initiate the download process from the genres I like, and in the morning, I have a bunch of new tracks to listen to, which I can then play without having a WI-FI connection. The sound quality is very good. I believe it encodes the tracks at 192K. Not as hi-fidelity as a vinyl encoded at 320K, but almost as good as a CD. You can also recommend songs, and that will affect which songs get downloaded, as well as which songs it plays on the Internet Radio. The user-interface is very intuitive. I can now almost operate the unit with my eyes closed. My only complaint is that the headphone jack is right next to the USB port, at the bottom of the unit, instead of on the side. Much of the pleasure from the unit comes the discovery of new music. If you are a "Life is the Journey, not the Destination" kind of person, then this player is definitely for you. Here are a two features that would be nice to have: 1. download a specific song 2. playlist management: move and copy tracks to other playlists The firmware will be automatically updated through the WI-FI connection, so hopefully they'll add these features shortly. 31 of 34 people found the following review helpful. The iPod killer that Creative couldn't make By Paul Gifford About a year ago I got a subscription to Yahoo Music Unlimited To Go for my wife. She loves music and had started using iTunes, but at $0.99/song I could see the bill adding up fast. Yahoo's subscription model made sense financially, as she could copy most of their catalog to a portable device without paying to burn it to a CD (with cassette adapters and cars with built-in aux jacks who needs to do that any more?). I bought her a Creative Zen Micro and had a little trouble getting it to work with Yahoo Music Unlimited, but eventually I got music transferred on to it. Since then it's been hit or miss. It seems that whenever she needs it most, e.g. traveling, there would be a license error. Same thing with transferring music...we've had to relicense music several times. The subscription to Yahoo is nearly up so we've been debating whether or not to renew. To get every song in her collection on iTunes would cost well over $1000 so we were reluctant to switch. Still, she was tired of the hassle of getting music to play and I was tired of trying to get things to work together. Then I happened to stumble across the SanDisk Sansa Connect. I read up on it and thought we'd give it a try before throwing in the towel. I'm glad we did - it works great! Getting set up was easy. It took less than 5 minutes to get it connected to our wireless network and to connect my wife to her Yahoo account. The only trouble was the configuration of my wireless network. I had SSID broadcast set to off and the Sansa Connect requires it to be on, even after you connect to your network once. A small compromise - hopefully they'll address this in an update. The interface is easy to use and intuitive. The scroll wheel gives positive feedback, unlike the touch slider of the Zen. The screen is bright and clear with large, colorful icons. The Internet radio feature is very nice, with the ability to skip songs you don't like and save songs you do like. It's a great way to discover new music. The integration with Yahoo Music Unlimited To Go is excellent.
